96 tacoma wont start

So my 96 tacoma the starter will engage some days and wont other days here is a list of all i have done thus far.

1: replaced the battery (old one was bad due to bad corrosion and it had a small crack)
2: replaced the starter relay
3: replaced positive cable from battery to fuse/relay junction under the hood (old one was in beyond bad shape from previouse owner. It was spliced together with a wire nut and electeical tape)
4: checked all cables made sure they were tight

I still need to make sure that all the grounds are clean and tight but i know its not the ignition switch due to i get the idiot lights on and some times the truck will start for a month or longer before it starts acting up. I need to get a new postive cable to run from the battery to the starter solenoid due to i seen some corrosion under the sheething when i cut off the old clamp for a new one to run the wire i replaced.

So my question before I need to remove the starter rebuild it or even replace it what else could cause the issue also what is the wireing harness from the starter solenoid to the fuse box that what looks like it connects to the starter relay and or that connects to the ignition switch any ideas will be much appreciated thanks

Odds are its the starter contacts. Search on that term and there are lots of threads here and on t4r.org on how to R&R them. Cheap fix and otherwise your factory Denso starter is good for another 20 years.

It doesn`t hurt to get all your wiring up to speed corrosion and electric don`t mix

Indeed but the starter been doing this for a while even before i got the truck thw battery i had looked old it didnt even have the date sticker on it and i knew it had a crack in it cause when i pulled it at the parts store by the postive post was wet Lol but the main battery cable is like 20 bucks comes with a top post clamp and a eyelet connector all ready connected to it but with the new clamp i have i will have to cut the clamp off the new wire for it and i may do the same for the ground due to the ground run it has (since i used to work for the cable company i know that the length of a ground wire shouldnt be too long or its just useless) in my eyes a ground for a battery is the same correct me if im wrong but a ground wire shouldnt be way to long like battery to chasis

I know about starters i used to rebuild starters alternators and genetators but when i repair i all ways check and make sure that its engaging correctly and that the armature is not shorted out cause if it is its pointless just to replace the contacts cause a shorted out armature will also cause that and or if the starter has magnets inside tge starter motor and one of them is broke and or destroyed same issue thats why i said replace and or rebuild
