96 Dune Runner
Well after hours of research and QnA my wife and I decided we are going with a 2jz gte swap, costs comparisons as well as hp/tq says it all. We are about two weeks from making our purchase of a JDM powerplant. We are going to take pictures as well as have some informal updates to help others as well as any informative tricks/ tips to look forward to during this project are most definetly welcome. I am a welder/ fabricator and have built a wide variety of race cars and off road vehicles over the last fifteen years so this will be my first, my wifes second, toyota build. Hopefully all goes w

Ok got a lil carried away with taking things off but this way there is accessibility to almost everything. Once motor and trans we will post another chapter. As of now prolly have three hours of goofing around to get to this point.

We are using the combination out of a 97 aristo so the engine is a 2jz-gte vvti with a A340e trans I really don't feel like doing another clutch conversion plus I would eventually like for my daughter to be able to drive it earlier than normal.... lol. She just turned one lol..... anyway we have ecu, harness, maf, from what i can tell appears everything lol. So working on xhaust not sure with that yet, looking for an extreme sleeper until about 4500 then listen to everything around go ballistic the higher the range. I am looking at a few coil over conversion suspension kits I have found a few good, well from looking at them, kits I just would like to have a little more knowledge on what's out there before we make a purchase. Ultimately I would like to have something close to a pro buggy for the travel but yet still driveable. We live close to silver lake sand dunes so that's our purpose of the build, plus the trails through the surrounding areas, as well as a part time daily driver hahahaha... thank you all for your interest shall keep y'all updated......

As of now the 2x4 will remain the same once I have the motor/trans in my possession we are going to dig deeper into different axle swaps. We have done a comparison into the differences in the trans ratio's from the supra & aristo to the 96 4runner just for peace of mind and they are fairly similar. Now taken into perspective tire sizes are different obviously I have seen a few different varieties of wheel and tire size, packages, that are of interest. A few sets require fabrication to the fenders. We will be removing the running boards and fender trim to allow a little more clearance, however, I have also found rocker savers to replace the boards. I will get more on to that when it gets a little closer. Now looking into fuel delivery I have a few different areomotive pumps and related pieces that should work again once I have motor & trans I will see what is able to be used for sure. Thank you for keeping the wheels turning sometimes those little things get over looked or forgot about ....

Sounds like you're fairly on top of things.
I went with the aristo 2jzgte vvti as well, I'm going inchworm lexus adaptor to dual transfer cases.
As far as fuel, I'm running a fuel cell I mounted under the floor, fuelab pump, filter, and regulator, upgraded my injectors to be e85 capable, and am running AEM.
The standalone isn't cheap, but really helps getting the power and shift points where you want them for a truck/4x4 application.

Any good suggestions for drive shaft and motor mounts I dont foresee these being a huge issue would like to see what im missing. Is there a way to convert the aristo a340e to a slip yoke or do i purchase the two piece drive shaft from the aristo and convert the pinion joint...... thank you......

Motor mounts are super easy, you'll understand when you see them, just cut yours out of the way, and make a new frame side mount.
Drkveshaftss were in different boats, i removed the tailhousing off my a340e, and I've got 2 feet of transfer case back there.

Awesome thank you....... :-) as far as the t-case im keeping mine 2x4 so i will have to figure that out once that time comes. We are about three weeks from getting our engine trans and goodies gettin EXCITED!!!!!!!!!

ever torn into an auto trans? I'm like 90% certain that if you pull the tailhousing, and input shaft from you're current a340, and throw them into your 2jz a340e, then that is all you're issues settled.

Never even thought of that well I dont have it yet so i cant physically see it lol but yeah ive been into an auto trans a few times ive read a few other forums of people doing that with the tail housing im sure a lot of things will make sense once I have everything in front of me... thank you again you have been very informative on my concerns. Much appreciated :-)
