96 4runner shift solenoid problem
I have a 96 4runner with 230k-
When I accelerate with the truck in drive the transmission seems to hesitate- it rolls forward slowly and then seems to completely engage at about 10-15mph.
Two issues-
1. I have been told by a couple people that it is my shift solenoid. Does this sound correct?
2. Can this part be repaired without dropping the transmission? The dealer quoted me $1200, but someone else said they could fix it without dropping the transmission.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!!!!

If it is one of the solenoids, then yes they can be replaced by removing the pan on the bottom of the trans, you don't have to drop the entire thing. You can usually get around the problem by manually shifting the trans, just start in L instead of D.

I have been going through shift solenoid problems a lot. Here is a link of things to try.

Do you come up with a check Light?
They are really easy to replace but a lot of money from Toyota.
