96 4runner 5sp tranny, strong?
hey guys. I am gunna sell my 95 4runner to buy a 96 or newer so i can have the 3.4 motor so i can supercharge it. No everyone always talks about the auto's with getting the valve body recalibrated and all but how does the 5spd handle the supercharger? Is it strong enough? because I would want a 5spd if I could could find one because i think they would be more fun and i was looking at a 96 4runner 5spd that was reasonably priced but I want to make sure the trtanny would hold. Thanks

Guys install Chevy and Ford v8's in front of it so yes it is strong. The tranny/transfer case combo is a heavy son of a bitch. You'll probably need a strong clutch - Centerforce or the like. Enjoy killing the original clutch though - no point doing that until you have to.

This is the most solid 5 speed I have ever owned. Granted, I am not supercharged, but I dont drive easy either.
Like Victor said, its the clutch that is going to be your weak link, if any.

Get the 5-Speed!!!!!!!!!! Even if it does break, I would rather fix it than drive an auto. No offense to Auto drivers.......I just LOVE the 4Runner's 5-speed.
