94 4runner v.s. 97 Tahoe
I have a 94 4runner 4wd auto 3" body lift and 33x12.50 tires and my friend has a 97 Tahoe 4wd with 6" suspesion lift and 35x12.50 tires. we argue who was the best truck and whos will last the longest. mine has 190,000+ mile and his has like 82,000+ mile i think. which rig is better? on and offroad? which has the longest life and etc.? any opion welcomed-thanks

Why don't YOU drive them BOTH and decide for yourself. You can't evaluate longterm durability, but you can evaluate on and off road capability.
Who cares what a bunch of people on the errornet think, drive them and decide for yourself.

I agree that you can't really say which will last longer. History says Toyotas outlast other vehicles, but if he has the 5.7 in the Tahoe that is a good motor. A friend of mine traded his Suburban in with over 220k on the clock and the motor, which was original, still ran great and got close to 20mpg on the highway. He did replace both diffs and the transfer case at around 200k though. Now he has 70k on an 5.3 Yukon, beats the thing, and has never had a problem. Per consumer reports American cars are now slightly more reliable than European cars and slightly less reliable that Japanese cars, but they don't test them 10 years after they were first purchased.

Depends on what your needs are and how you take care of it. I've seen plenty of high mileage Toyota's and high mileage Chevy's-don't knock the 350 it's a good motor. I had a '94 Z-71 that currently has over 300k miles and still runs good and a '00 Z-71 with 230k miles that still drives like new. Both of these have been offroad everyday since new (I'm a Forester), but have been serviced regularly. I have also seen an '86 Toyota 4x4 with over 600k miles before it spun a bearing-it was also offroad everyday since new too. So, it really depends on how you take care of it. If I were betting offroad, I would say deep mud only-Chevy, anything else-Toyota. I have owned both and being relatively tall, my onroad nod would go to the Chevy.

The GM Small block V8 is 50 years old.
It was back in 1955, when Chevy introduced the new Small Block V8 engine in it's Bel Air model. This engine was used to pace the Indy 500 and in that same year, won its first NASCAR victory. It has been winning races of all kinds ever since. Even last week at Daytona, the Chevy small block V8 was in the winner's circle. Read about this amazing engine design and how it has affected the automotive industry.... Feb 23, 2005
