87 4runner Trouble getting to start?!? need help
Ok I have an 87 4runner EFI, Im having trouble getting the thing started. The engine has been completely rebuilt, I am getting fuel through the fuel rail and checked the injectors and they are getting 12V. I checked the fireing and I am getting spark. What else could be wrong? I have been at this for a few days now and am really wanting to get this think running. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

does it start? does it crank? is it jsut rough?
if it isnt starting at all but is cranking, i would suggest looking toward the fuel pump, or the timing, if the timing is severly off it will crank and not start.....

I am assuming that your motor is cranking over. Check for spark. If you are getting something at the ends of the spark plug its pretty safe to say that your ignition system is ok. Make sure that your timing chain is not off a tooth. The cam dowel should be pointing straight up when the motor is at TDC on the compression stroke. While you have it set to TDC on the compression stroke line up your distributor with the rotor over #1 wire. What kind of fuel pressure are you getting? 4-crawler has great information on his site about troubleshooting the fuel system (http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...shtml#FuelPump).
Did you check for continuity of the grounding wires for the injectors? Sometimes the butt connector where they come together gets messed up when you start moving the wiring harness around.
