'84-'88 2WD (front) mudguards???

Did the 2WD '84-'88 PU's ever come with front mudflaps from the factory? I know alot of them had mudflaps on the back, but did they ever have them on the front?

The local dealer "supposedly" has a set of 2WD front mudflaps part no. (76621-39065) and (76622-39065). However, they look a little too big for a 2WD. I'm thinking they're probably for the 4WD model instead.

Can anyone tell me what those Part no.'s are for? I'd like to verify if they're actually the correct mudflaps for my 2WD '88 PU.

I don't know what the part numbers would be, but I had factory mudflaps on the front of my '86 2wd. They did not look too big or anything like that.

Glenn,

Would you be able to describe, the best way you can, what the front mudflaps on your '86 looked like?

The ones I saw at the dealer flaired out a little on the sides. The width was about 10-12". They don't say "Toyota" or anything on them. They have a smooth pebble-like finish on the part facing away from the tire.

I've already purchased the factory rear mudflaps a few months ago. They have a ribbed-like appearance to them with lines in them and the word "Toyota" spelled out down near the bottom.

I know the back ones are the correct style because I've seen other PU's of my vintage with the same type of mudflaps. It's just the front ones I'm not to sure about.

It was a while ago ... at least five years ago.

They did not flare out on the sides. There wasn't any Toyota logos on them. They were plain black. I don't remember if either side had a pebbled surface. I think they might have had some kind of molding on them to contour with the inner fender somehow, but I might be wrong about that. They hung down just a bit above the rear factory mudflap level. I will look for a picture. I might have one somewhere.

Thanks Glenn.

I went back to the dealer and found out that Toyota made two different types of rear mudflaps for the 2WD PU's from '84-'88.

One type has a ribbed appearance with lines going down and the word TOYOTA spelled out (in black) near the bottom. This is the kind I have. These mudguards were used on base models only. Apparently, base models were not available with front mudguards from the factory.

If you wanted front mudgards, then you had to upgrade to the Deluxe or SR5 option package. These models had different rear mudflaps than the ones optional on the base truck. I guess the front mudflaps were made to match the rear ones available on the Deluxes/SR5's.

Leave it to Toyota to make something so complicated.
