84 4runner?

I recently bought a 1984 4Runner and I was planning on rebuilding the engine. When we pulled the engine we noticed a crack in the block. I bought a head that worked after 8/84. After 8/84 they starting using flat top pistons instead of pop up pistons. Therefore my '84 block will not bolt up to the 8/84 head. My question is If I get an '85 block will everything off my '84 block bolt up?

Nope, there is differnt intakes and exhaust manifold inlets on the head.

If your 84 block is good than the best thing to do I hear is take a 20R head cause of the valve sizes and stuff. I dont know a ton but ask around.

Good luck

The engine is a 22r. I all ready checked out the heads thay are the same. The only difference is the newer head will only work with flat top pistons the old head worked with pop up pistons. No I can't use the same block becuase it is cracked. So all the bolt holes are the same on the heads. My ? is will the holes be the same on a old 84 and the 8/84 and newer block? Ok if not my other ? is can i put flat top pistons in an old 84 block?

No because the block is like 2mm shorter than a newer one.
