That's pretty sweet. My bed's shot though I would have to score another bed before I could do something like that.
It looks alot like my truck though.

When was your truck made?
My vin plate says mine was made Jan 82.

82 as well. Very nice looking ride you have there, if it wasn't for the fiberglass bed mine would be in smiliar shape.

Yes, they are. Very comfortable too!

Okay, here's an update. I decided to send the side and rear panels to the awning shop to have them sewn up with some clear plastic for windows. I suck at sewing!

Still have to put the snaps on, that will eliminate the need for a couple bungies right now. Just takes time. Very tedious project.

I'll post up some more pics when the panels get back.

i used 3/4 conduit and a conduit bender for my frame. super easy to make. to keep the rain out i added clear plastic in the front for the time being- as soon as i get some more time i'll rig up a way to connect the canvas to the cab. i still have to get snaps put into the side so i can unroll the side and back flaps. here are a few pics pics

Props man, that thing looks great! Much better than my attempt here. Gonna keep workin' with it and have it professionally sewn.

Thanks for the link

yeah, i was lucky enough to have a mom that can sew anything. it really isnt hard if you have a sewing machine. i just did it over my spring break and the process is pretty fresh on my mind if you have any questions or anything just let me know. the only thing i would change if i could do it over again is buy the sunbrella with vinyl on the inside or something that is completely waterproof. the stuff i got makes water beed up and roll off but if it is sitting and water builds up than it leaks a little. i finished mine with only 5 yards of the 48" stuff and really didnt have an inch to spare. good luck with it

I've got the sewing machine and my recruited help wasn't much help.

I heard that about the Sunbrella and took my material back for the Codura, sounds like a good move.

Sure there will be some questions popping up soon, I'll give you a shout.

Yeah, it's done as it will get. I've left the panels off for summer and working on a write up for the whole thing. Just takin' some time

How's your project coming along?

Excellent idea. My brother is an electrician, and has a bender, and probably access to some spare conduit. I'll have to talk to him and see whats up. He's got a 76 Blazer so maybe I'll make him a top too if he can get me some conduit.

How much conduit did you end up using? Did it weld up alright? I thought conduit was galvanized. Just hit it with a grinder to remove it?

Looks really great.

well, i had never bent anything before so i bought 4 10' pieces and a conduit bender. i'm not sure if i bought 1/2" or 3/4" (i think 5/8" would have been best though) the 4 pieces worked out great because it took about 7 feet for each hoop and than the remaining 3 feet were used to connect the hoops at the bottom of the bends. the 4th piece of conduit was cut into 3 3' pieces.

yes it is galvanized so you have to grind it off and still be prepared for some fireworks. i looked for a long time for 1x2 inch square tube but i just couldnt find nonsymetrical square tubeing. i went to home depot and settled on this awesome solid pvc moulding that was roughly 1x2 inches and had limited decoration. just weld some tabs to the hoops and bolt them down to the pvc or bed. (because it was a pickup i had to drill about 4 holes on both sides and drop bolts all the way down)

Awsome! Thanks for the help!

This PVC molding you used, what section did you find it @ Home Depot? What's it called? Do you happen to have your receipt and the part number?
