5speed double cab?

I love the way the double cabs look and all that room in a tacoma sure seems nice but i dont think i have ever seen one in stick. I asked the guy at the dealership if they offer them in 5speed and he said yes but ive heard they only come in automatic. Whats the deal?

The 2005's and ups are available with the 6 speed manual in a double cab 4x4. They are rarely seen on dealer lots though. That is what my pops has and he had to special order his.

the 02 (or 03? whenever they started) to the new body style (05) tacomas with double cab cannot be purchased with a manual transmission. I was pretty sure that none of the double cabs were offered with manuals, only the extended and regular cabs. I could be wrong (about the new ones only)cause I don't know too much about the new tacomas.

Always have to scratch my head when manufactureers come up with these jag-off restrictions... they build the damn things in the same plant why can't I have the vehicle the way I want it? case in point the Crysler intrepid/300 series the sell it in 5 spd in europe and mexico et al but can you get it here? NO! yet they build them all (for everywhere) in one plant.

It sucks, but that's just the way it is. Buy it and be one of the few that has swapped out the auto for a manual

Yep 01-04 auto only, 05+ 6spd man or 5spd auto...

You could always get a 01-04 and swap a 5spd in....

Thanks for the answers guys. Yea having an 01-04 with a swapped out 5 speed would truely be the best of both worlds!

Would swaping in a 5spd not screw up the ECU? I know the 89-94s had different ECUs for the manny and slush boxes. Would'nt you still have to change that also?

There's a few guys who have swapped out the auto for a 5 speed manny. In my case, the time and money involved wouldn't be worth it... But like Ryan said, DOOO IIIITTT!!!
