4th gen rear factory locker question

Do you think the new Taco's rr electric locker would swap into the 4Runner or would you have to do total rear end swap? I guess there is no way to know until you take a real close look...

I dont think we will be that lucky.

The pumpkin for the elocker will be different, and the axle as well (leaves vs springs)

you'd prob be able to swap axles but then again you'll run into problems in the suspension area.

Also, keep in mind that the taco will have different gear ratio (v6 - 6spd i think) thus you'll have to swap it out.

It would probably drive TRAC and VSC crazy and result in unintended consequences, not to mention a voided warranty.

not locker related but could a 6speed hook up to a V8, I think a Tundra owner has swapped in a 5speed to the V8

Nope the 6speed is only for the V6 on the new Taco and Tundra, dont know if it will fit but defintely not from the factory, which tells me they are not confident the manual gearbox or clutch is a good idea with the V8. Probably will have a problem when towing heavy loads with the extra trq and clutch, who knows????

neither trac or vsc should get all mumbled up due to the rear locker in place. the reason behind is because once the rear locker is locked, the computer won't know if the rear tires are slipping and only detect slippage on the front. Therefore, the computer will only compensate the front.

As for the 6spd tranny on a v8. The only problem is finding a computer that will control the tranny since it's auto. YOu'll need an ecu that works on the v8 as well as the 6spd. The reason why tundra owners can swap the 5a/t into their system is because our engines (current non vvti) are the same so swapping the tranny and ecu is all you really need (also you'll need to redo the center console/cable/gearing/handle parts though.
