4Runner starter

4Runner starter
Heading to one of my favorite places, the salvage yard. I'm looking to replace my starter for a 94 4Runner. Are there any other toyota starters that would boltup? I understand that due to engine size, compression, and engine accessorys there are probably numerous differences. But mainly in rpm, gear size, and duty. Mostly I'm looking for a bolt in replacement, any ideas.

Definatly could be the contacts, but the salvage yard i frequent charges $10 a starter any make. I take a portable jump starter with me to test them out, you just cant go wrong.

Hey - you can get a rebuilt one for 90 bucks about anywhere... It's such a bit*& to remove you might as well put in a new one -- unless you've got a lot more time than you've got money .
In that case check the contacts...

So you're going to get (probably) an older starter than the one you have and you're not going to know the condition of the contacts? I think I'd stick with the one you've got and get new contacts for like $15 or so.
Anyway, why don't you take in your current starter and see what matches up at the junkyard.

Thanks AdamF for the link, nice photos. Didn't need them until I returned from the yard. Its nice to have a friend the owns a salvage yard, just went out picked a low mile gen2, they cut the moto /trans loose, pulled it and I just took of the starter. I picked up a set of contacts, installed them, uninstalled my starter and installed my new one. Since it was such a breeze I'll pick up another set of contacts for my old one. Thanks All
