My 96 is in the recall..

Have airbags in the stock springs.. (one dog and one cooler max out the load capacity) so I'll bet they want the airbags out before they work on it..

Why waste your time? Just get the OME springs and be done with it. It cost me about $150 and 3 hours of time. The truck rides night and day. The stock springs are junk. Put them side by side with OME and you will see the difference. Seriosuly, the 4runner is a death trap with any weight with those stock springs.

You don't even need to call. You can find out if your vehicle is on the recall online. I doesn't apply to all 3rd gens, in fact I think 98 was the cutoff. So don't get your hopes up thinking you'll get a free set of springs out of it.

15 years and 221,000 miles since manny date and I drove to the dealer this week for some parts and to watch them do this recall. Service manager was like "I've never seen a recall performed this old." haha. I told him I was trying to wait to 300,000 to do it.

I can get a new gas cap for free for my 1966 International Harvester tractor just by putting the VIN in an on-line form. I did it in the 70's (by mail), but the recall is still active today for tractors going back to the fifties (according to my tractor forum.)
