4Runner leaking HELP!

Hey guys and gals. My 1997 4runner is leaking. the roof inside my truck gets wet when it rains and leaks to the back seat floor. Water also leaks onto my driver side floor. The water is coming from near the door side of the floor. it seaps out from behind the plastic. I do have roof racks on my 4runner not sure if that could be leaking causing my inside roof to get wet. Any help would be appreciated. Maybe you guys know what type of shop i shoud take it to, to get it checked. Thanks.

What year 4Runner? If you want to take it to a shop, a auto glass or body shop may be your best bet. You can use a hose to try to find the leak yourself. OEM roof racks are mounted using a nut that is inserted through a hole in the roof. If you think the rack is a problem, you could try unscrewing the rails & put a dab of silicone on each hole & reattach it. As for the leak by the door, I believe there are drain holes in the cowl ( below the windshield) that could be plugged. Do you have a sunroof? There are drain holes around the sunroof that can become plugged.
Good luck,
Paul

Make sure all the star-head bolts are screwed down and tight to your roof rails. I had a similar leaking problem with a previous 4Runner. Found that I was missing one of these bolts and that's where the water was leaking in.

Good luck
