I knew I saw something like this somewhere, and I was gonna say put toyota down the side of it like that has the hemi listed.

I thought about paint when it was originally suggested to me years ago, but for me, painting would've been WAAAAAY more time consuming and WAAAAAY more work.
If you're good, you can get this thing on and done in 15-20 mins. And even if you suck at it (like I did) it only took about 30-35 mins. Not nearly as much prep needed as with painting, no needing primer, no needing multiple coats, no hoping/worrying that no bugs or leafs or junk gets stuck to it before it completely dries (some of these things could be moot points for others that might have nice paint booths setup...).
If done right, paint would definitely be the better option though IMO.

looks good although I agree a little wider and longer might look better, but why vinyl and not just spray paint? If it's to allow for removal and put the hood back to oem, it's gonna need to be repainted after removal after an extended amount of time anyway because the hood will fade around the vinyl but not under it kinda like what happens with a bra on a car.

Honestly, I would do this over again on any color 4runner except possibly the rootbeer brown or whatever color that is. LOL. I think i would even work on the green, though it would not be as noticeable of course.
And yes, this was partially aesthetic, but I won't believe any one of you if you tried to tell me that when you do some mod or addition to your rig, you don't think to yourself, "now that looks bad ass!" Nice to have that "function over form" stuff, but nobody wants a rig that destroys all but looks like an absolute pile. Well, maybe some would. But i guarantee they would prefer it look good if they had a choice. Anyway...

Hey man looks like you a did a great job with applying that vinyl! I make decals for my profession and applying something that large is no joke! Nice choice with the 3M 2 mil, should easily be around an 8 year rated vinyl.

Wow, a lot of doubters out there. This isn't really a new idea (not too take away from Ferg), Land Rover's been doing it for years...
I know I have noticed the glare off of that big flat hood before, and was thinking about doing this myself.

I like it and think it looks good, however I agree that making it a little wider and longer would have worked a little better.
Yep, as many have stated its for the glare. Around here, a lot of the utility type trucks that are white or yellow have black hoods.

Cool idea! Kills glare from the hood like the matte green and grey they use on military aircraft. Probably the reason that mustang has the matte black hood. Imagine a matte green 4runner with one of those jobby's and a star on each half door.

No worries Motohead - I'm not claiming this as my own idea.
And for fun...
!) Before: Glare. (~3.00pm, driving east)
2) After: What glare? (~5:30pm, driving south)
(Ya, I know its different angles from the sun, but you can get the idea I think.)
