4Runner dying, should I fix?
So my 4runner looks like it has a valve that is going. The truck has a misfire in cylinder 2 and all of the other cylinders have about 160 psi compression. Cylinder 2 has 120 psi. My mechanic and I are fairly certain it's a valve. I was quoted $3,000 to fix or $5,000 to put a new motor in it.
The truck is a 2001 Sport with 155,000 miles. Everything else is great on the truck and I like it a lot. I guess I'm just questioning whether or not I should put the money into it or what I can get out of it the way it sits. I have other trucks and just use this one to run around town in. What do you think guys??? Thanks!!

5K for a brand new motor ?
If used, seems high to me .
At any rate, if you like the truck, and all else is good on it, then 5K is still probably cheaper than what buying a different one would run.
I would also look at a second opinion as IIRC a head gasket job on a 1FZ-FE 6 cylinder Land Cruiser is a ~ 2K job - I have a hard time seeing where a 4 cylinder, or a 6 cylinder, would be another grand.
Just some quick off the cuff thoughts - good luck !

Thanks for the heads up. I'm seeing some posts on these motors going to 300k. I guess what I'm wondering is if I do a new head on it am I realistically going to see another 100k miles out of it or is something else just waiting to break?
Like I said, I've had no issues so far and there are no leaks. Up until now it drives like the day I bought it 9 years ago.

Yea somthing else will probably break in another 25k or so and then probably 50k after that. But what's cheaper a few hundred here and there for repairs or 30 thousand for a new pos that's going to bust in the same amount of time

The lower end is now used to lower compression, and as a result of the low compression, I'm willing to bet not all the fuel is being burnt, meaning theres prolly some getting into the lower end and washing it out. Oil smell a bit like gas?
Anyway... if you put a new head on, or fix the one you got, it will raise the compression, and likely put more strain on the lower end, causing issues in the future...
Full rebuild, or swap is what I'd do....

The valve is not burnt,YET. take a feeler gauge and check all four valve lash on #2 cyl. Both ex valves will be zero or less.LOL ! Just fin a thinner shim and drive. You can do this with the heads on the engine.Maybe $100 buck fix.
