4Banger Vs. v6 Prerunner. NEED ADVICE

I was wondering if there was a dramatic power difference between the 4cyl and the v6 prerunner 2wd, auto's, xtra cab.
Does the 4cyl lack in power??
is the gas mileage better??
does the engine last as long as the v6?
Any gripes or concerns???
Thanks

I have the 2.7l and it has plenty of power for me. As long as you get it in a 5speed it should be fine. They are great little engines and you don't have to worry about the cam belt needing to be changed because it is a chain.

every car needs a water pump change sometime in its life. same with the Tbelt. Tbelt is reccomended every 80,000 miles or so. (if i remember my tacoma-ology correctly)

If it was between a 2.4L and a 3.0L, I'd go with the 4 cylinder, but theres so many improvements in the 3.4L that it's tough to take a 4 banger over it.

I think the first gen. tacomas had changes in 1998 and 2001; mostly headlights and grille

There's somewhere on the web that shows the change in grilles and front facias through 95.5-04, other then that body style is exact. (Excuse my crappy grammar my enter key has gone AWALL)

I would personally get the 3.4, the 2.7 is ok and it is relible but the 3.4 has a lot more power and is just as relible (i have seen these engines go over 350k miles 100% stock and with nothing but normal work).

Plus you will never regret having more power but you could very well regret having too little (forget about towing with a 2.7)

As said, don't even think about the 2.7 unless it is a manual tranny.

Ok, i should clairfy, you CAN tow but it is not an enjoyable experiance.

Heck i have seen little 4 bangers loaded down with more weight then a full sized truck and move it from point a to point b, doesn't mean it is safe or easy lol.
