3RZ will NOT run at all after headgasket
Blew the HG friday evening in my Tacoma.
Tore everything down, got it all back together and ready to go sunday.
For some reason, it just cranks.
I have fuel, air, compression, and spark.
If i hold the pedal to the floor, it'll sputter and try to start, then backfire.
This is a 98 tacoma 4wd with a 3RZ FE I4.
I've quadruple checked the cam timing, and i know i'm not off.
Unless, of course, the dot is supposed to be 90* off the head, and not pointing straight up and down 90* from the floor.
Anyways. I had it running for a solid minute. I had to hold the pedal to the floor to get it running, then feathered the throttle until it evened out. I had to turn it off to add coolant. It didn't restart afterwards. It tries to sputter if i hold the pedal to the floor.
I pulled the plugs after it had ran for that minute then wouldn't restart. They were covered in black soot, and wet raw fuel..
When it turns over via starter, it doesn't sound normal, either. When it cranks it doesn't seem to have the constant slow turn that it would normally have, which alarms me and makes me think cam timing is out of whack even though i've checked a hundred friggin times.
Any ideas? And yes, I HAVE SEARCHED.

Not sure on ignition timing. Its coil packs and cam/crank sensor so i cant really see it being off.
The thing that throws me off is that it doesnt even crank right. It reminds me of my 22r with the cam gear off one tooth. I might just end up taking it to a shop.
I got my taco last june. Guess i should update my stuff eh.

Bump with update.
Managed to get it "running" last night. I'm off a tooth on the cam side by a tooth. I'm not sure which direction. It stayed at 2500 RPM, blew a ton of smoke from running rich, and had terrible throttle response.
