3rd Generation 4cyl. Gas Mileage
I have a 2000 4runner with a 4cylinder and 265's on it. I recently replaced the air filter, plugs, wires, and ran some fuel injector cleaner. I'm getting about 17-18 mpg. Does anyone else have a similiar setup that is getting better or about the same gas mileage?

you should find some useful information there, might want to specifiy if you have a 5spd or a slushbox.

yep. i get 18 mpg even after i did seafoam, air filter, plugs, wires. i have 115k on my 4 cyl engine too. it just doenst want to give me better mileage for some reason =(

Mine is a 2001 2.7 auto extended cab with 16" tires and a truck bed tool box with about #250 of tools and rescue stuff and I weigh #200 and drive the mountains everyday because I live on top of one . I'm getting 19-20 and on the highway (Expresway) I git 22-23 depending on how flat it is.
I don't punch it on a take off but on the expw. we can do 70 here in WV and that's where I set the cruise.Mike

Mine is a 2000 4wd 2.7 5 speed 4Runner w/ 16" and 265/70's and 83k on it w/ 4.56 axle ratio. I get around 18 in the Winter months and closer to 21 in the summer. My best was a highway trip through NY with 3 adults an 85 pound dog and gear going 78-80 w/ a/c on and I got 24.8 mpg. So an all around average of 18 is not bad. And no matter what else gets posted after this, driven the same way under the same conditions the 4 will always get better mileage than the 6.

I've got about the same set up as he does.....except for 265/75's vs. 70's, so a pretty minor difference......my milage is roughly samey-same, if not just a touch better. My avereage is about 18-19. One thing you need to stipulate is your gearing, transmission, mods, etc. - and, what altitude you're running at. If you're near sea level, you're milage will be a little worse, conversly however, you'll have a little more power. High altitude has just the opposite effect. Around Yellowstone (6000 - 8000') last summer, my numbers stayed around 20 - 22mpg for two weeks.
If you're really after better milage, make your vehicle as "slippery" areodynamically as possible. Strip off the rack, off-road lights, bug deflector, etc. This can usually sqeeze out an extra 1-2mpg. If thats not good enough, buy a beater Honda or Subaru off of E-bay for $700 and get 30mpg.

Im having 21-24 mpg.My 4Runner is a 2wd with 4:10 gears and 265/70R16's Toyo Open AT Country tires.I now have LCE header and Maremont Cat,Amsoil air filter with deckplate modification.

I'm living in WV and I go from 1000' to 2200' 3 times just to get to town 9 miles away.My 2001 4x4 has a 2.7 and auto tranny 16" tires and as stated above the gas milage is better than some others for some reason but with the price of gas it would be great if I could get a few more MPG out of it.
Don't care for all the mods I read about on these threads and in many cases they still seem to get worse milage than I do but I am a firm believer in driving right. What I mean by that is no fast take off's and letting the taco reach it's speed at a good pace but not with my foot to the floor. We can't do much over 60 around here due to the curves and most of the time you speeding up and down all day from about 10 to 60 mph. On the freeway I can set my cruise on 70 and let her go with good milage.
Also keep the air filter clean and plugs and oil change and grease when they are due.
Some guy's say they get better milage in the mountains and off road by driving with the OD off and that may be but I don't see how. It's like driving around in second all day. The only time I use the OD off is when I'm in some bad spots off road. Mike
