3rd Gen Roof Rack Tent?

Anyone have some roof rack tent experience on a 3rd Gen. I'm trying to simply camping life @ mountain bike races. These look pretty neat.

http://www.racktents.com/Tents.html

There was an ad in this months 4wd Toyota Owners magazine, but I don't have a copy of it, if someone has this months magazine could you post a link to the website for the company advertising roof top tents?

I wonder how the weight the is distributed on the rack, and I wonder if the 3rd Gen is strong enough up top to take this on.

That would not work very well for me, especially after a six pack and waking up at 3am to whiz. Cool set ups though.

There's a 4WD Toyota Owners mag ? I must find this today Thanks.

I looked at those, and they are very nice.
They even have it mounted to the stock FJ rack.

I ended up going with a different model though, just had it installed today.
It is in the 4wheeling 101 section, and I will have more pics up tomorrow.

Talk to members trdparts4u and strap22 also, as they carry a nice tent that is similar to that type.

Thanks for the info! Please post pics of yours all setup. It just seems like a lot of weight distributed on the rack.

Talk to Xcmountain80 (Aaron). He ran an RTT for some time on his 3rd Gen. For all I know, he's still running it.

I will send him a PM....

I found this Tacoma Pic, I'm sure something like this would work on a 4Runner.

ARB Rooftop tent system

Now I'm starting to dig these expedition trailers.. they have a tent on top as well.

hmmmmmm

Since I'd only the need the tent once in a while and I can't park in the garage with the tent on meaning I'd have to put it on all the time. The trailer might be the ticket as it turns into a tent.

It's cool but what exactly is the point of that. Esp for that kind of money. I think it's all the years I spent back packing and camping but for 1/2 that or less you can get a nice tent. Or buy a roof top carrier and then fold the rear seats down. I'm 6'1" and it might not be the most comfortable but I've slept in much worse.

I do like the trailers.

We have them at $759.00 shipped.
The color is darker on the model we have now and has an awning type top. We have some pictures in our Tent thread. I can tell you this much....I love having one on the trailer so I can just setup camp and still go wheeling. It will fit on your roof with no problem too.

I had $4500.00 plus in that one. They have come down in price. Try this site. Robert will build it to your specs.

Get in touch with Aaron (XCMountain80). I know he has a roof mounted tent that he used at Tellico last year that seemed very nice. He'll be able to point you in the right direction.
