3rd gen. 4runner front diff removal

Hey Ric Glenn and i are removing my diff's this weekend to get re-geared to 4.88's (almost a year with 35's and 4.33 gears was enough)and i was wondering if anyone has a good write up one removing the front. I have been givin a verbal description by the one setting my gears but i would like to have something on paper just in-case. I searched google and such and haven't been able to find any good write-ups so if there are any good ones out there I would love the see them.

Thanks,

Bobby

haha a quote from that link
"the diff falls right out"

my ass it does....... I would suggest taking off the breather and add tubes on top of the diff this was the make or break point point for taking my diff out.

My first time it took me 3-4 hours to swap a diff, the only help i had was getting the diff physically out and physically back in. The rest I did by myself.

I am sure next time I will be able to do it in half the time. Kind of like when i first pulled my rear diff it took me like a tad over an hour, but now its like 30 minutes tops and its out.

Mine didn't "fall right out" either. The biggest problem I had was the rear flange got jammed between the tranny and the steering shaft. That took a bit of time to sort out. I also found it easier to completely remove the CV shafts rather than just pulling them from the diff and leaving the outer end attached.

I don't remember being it that hard. I took off both wheels and pulled the CV's out. Removed the 3 mounting bolts, the hoses, and connections. then I pulled it out. Its been over 2 years, and I can't remember any "tricks" but, you'll get it out.

This doesn't really help much, but heres the FSM on it

Also, if you don't mind me asking, how much is it costing you to bring the diffs in and getting them regeared? I wouldn't mind getting 4.88's sometime soon.

Seems I haven't really don't have problems with 4.30's in there, but, I would like to get 4.88's for better fuel economy.

I second all of this. Its like a puzzle trying to get it out the first time.
