3rd Gen 4 Runner Rear Drum Brake Job Advice

Good morning boys!

I just replaced the rear brakes on my 4 Runner, had to replace the drums as they could not be turned. I just bought the truck not long ago and have not put hardly any miles on it, but the previous owner did not do a damn thing in the way of maintenance. Anyways, when i put it all together and bled the brakes, the E Brake light was on and the E Brake literally had no tension and the brake pedal has to be pressed all the way to the floor to get it to stop. Is this just an adjustment through the little slot behind the wheel? Or does this thing need to be broken in some? BTW, the E Brake light has since turned off after multiple reverse - forward activities in the street out front of my house.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!! You guys are awesome. I am new to Yotatech but have found you guys to be a worthy resource.

TC

First the rear brakes are kept in adjustment by using the emergency brake!!

With these Toyota vehicles backing up and braking does nothing really!!

The light can be on from the fluid level to low in Master Cylinder or the Emergency brake lever is not pushed in far enough to open the switch.

Not sure if the newer vehicles also have it wired in to come on with a charging system issue

***Adjust the brakes up via the slot .To the point the Emergency Brake holds the vehicle

You did clean and make sure the adjusters and Emergency brake linkage was working ??

Thanks Wyoming- Seems to have done the trick. Just adjusted thru the slot and everything tightened up just like a good rejuvenation haha
