Does anybody ever forward all our griping about mpg (even b4 the Great oil price hike of '05) to Toyota Corp.? They have GOT to see that there's a viable market for light duty diesel in the US...

Deisel is almost a dollar per gallon more than 87 is right now, at least around me. That light duty deisel had better get some damned good gas mileage!

Are you figuring your mileage with the offset of larger tires? Mine came with 265's, I now have 285's. My Odo is off about a 10th per 2 miles. I suppose there could be some error in my GPS, but since I went from 4:10's to 4:30's and tire change, the miles would be off a little. My speedo is off by 2 mph.

My supercharged 4runner is getting about 17 mpg. My wifes is getting around 20 mpg. - Forgot to mention, that a lot of my driving is highway 55 mph.

17mpg with 33's and supercharged is still very good.

20-21 is about what I get highway with my stock 265/70-16 tires.

If my Runner came stock with 265/70R16's and I'm gonna lift it and put 285/75R16's on it...what kind of drop in mileage should I expect? Just wondering!

Sounds like you are getting a pretty appropriate gas mileage based on the calculations you've made.

what type of tire are you running now? what type will the 285s be? if you stick with the same type of tire you are running now, the difference should be minimal - maybe 1 mpg on average (a little more perhaps if you drive strictly in town, maybe a little less if you spend a lot of time on the highway). if you go with an MT, you will lose a little more, probably around 2 mpg, maybe 3.

Thanks for the heads up again guys... Yeah I checked the side plate of the driver door and it shows that I have the 4.30...

The reason why I asked is that if I regear, it will fix my speedo and I should get approx. 15mpg... However there are quite a few of you guys getting around 17-18mpg... That is why I hoped there was something maintenance wise that I missed... From Ebelen and Bob's posts, I think it is just the crappy traffic around here that drags the mpg down a bunch...

I get 17-18 on the highway with my setup. Anybody else wonder how the new Tacomas are advertising 28mpg and have 220 horsepower? Doesn't that sound like quite a package... gotta wonder how they accomplished that. I did notice around 1 mpg difference after putting synthetic the whole way through btw.
