3000 mile road trip tomorrow
Forgive me if this is in the wrong forum but......
Well tomorrow I leave LA for Portland, OR. Its a 900 mile trip there, about 1500 back (we're going down the coast on the way home) and however many miles inbetween. All in all I figure about 3000. Any last minute preparations I should do for my truck? All I've done so far is an oil change/lube job, snow chains (prolly need those), and 300 lbs. of sand bags in the back end. I know there's probably a hundred other little things I could do, but am I missing anything vital? This is my first road trip if you cant tell. I'm looking forward to it though......no work for a week
Any help would be appreciated....thanks!

Bring bottled gals of water too.
There is a huge list of items but be realistic about what you could really need.
Fluids for the car (coolant, oil).
First aid (in case)
Simple tool set
Make sure tire pressure is set to max (35psi ?) see on your tires.
Check your belts and do a coolant flush if the coolant is dirty or rust colored.
Check the brakes for wear and top off any remaining fluids.

I just drove up from San Diego last Thurs./Fri. Wasn't too bad from Redding to Ashland, OR which is usually the worst stretch. Chains were required over that stretch for trucks (Siskyou mountains) but 4X4's didn't need them and it turned out to be mostly bare and wet.
However, since then the weather up here in the northwest has turned very bad. Today, it's snowing over most of the state with freezing rain on the way this afternoon. it's supposed to warm up tomorrow but there will probably still be ice. If you could delay another day you might want to do it. I-5 is closed between Roseburg and Eugene with numerous bad wrecks because of the ice.
