3 Inch Rev Tek, Need A Diff Drop? Also Tires, Wheels Sizes, Fender Trimming...

hello,

I am starting on my truck, which is a 1997 3.4 liter V 6 5 Speed SR5, I did searches and read some thing but have a couple specific questions so figure I would post.

for now I will install a 3 inch rev tek lift, eventually will do a better suspension upgrade...should I get a diff drop kit just to be on the safe side?

Also can I use something bigger than a 285/75/16 if I am willing to do some fender and front bumper trimming? maybe use a different offset wheel? I am thinking about a 295/75/16 which comes out to just more than 33 inch overall diameter and 11.5 wide if mounted on an 8 inch rim.

Any pictures, rim and tire sizing would be greatly appreciated.

Regards, Tim

with a 3" revtek lift i wouldn't run anything more than a 285 w/out a BL. a diff drop is CHEAP and saves your CV's. Call SS# or Roger Brown

My Revtek kit came with the diff drop. So far I'm pretty happy with it.

I'm running 285s with the Revtek kit with no problems. The rear spacers that I got with my Revtek kit were only about 2" though, don't know why but I replaced the rear spacers with 890s and couldn't be happier. Diff drop does come with the kit.

so you run the 890s in the rar with no spacers right? and the rev tek spacers up front?

I got the 890s on sale for $130. I don't have any spacers in the rear, but I am still using the factory conical bumpstops (I think some ppl leave those out with the OME springs). With 285s and the Revtek/OME lift, ground to fender up front is ~38.5" and in the rear its ~39", so its up pretty high and is basically level.

you can pick up front lift blocks on ebay for about 75 shipped, and some OME 891s for about 160 shipped from Mike @ extreme off road. Mike also supplied my diff drop kit for $28. I havnt personaly run rear lift blocks ontop of stock coils, but i hear it sucks. The stock springs are already soft, plus their old by now and saggy. like an old lady.. any ways, for about the same price as a complete spacer lift kit, you can just get front blocks insted, then order some good OME rear springs. The 891s are a goo bit stiffer then factory, and are a million times better then spacers. People alsop say teh spacers are very un settled feeling at highway speeds and the truck tends to wander. save your self some hassle, get springs, and have a better over all lift for the same amount of money. I have about $265 in my lift setup which includes the front spacers, rear ome 891s and the driff drop kit, and the last time I checked the daystar complete spacer lift kit was around $300.

For tires, consider a 255/85/16 they work good cus the little less width helps with rubbing issues. Are you going with a AT, or a MT ? if you want to run a cheap good MT, go for the Dunlop Mud Rover. For the 255/85/16 the demensions pulled right off t dunlops site are 33.6 x 10.80 16. Good hight, and at 1/2 of an inch skinnyer, your never going to notice a diffrence.... Mine came from Sams, and for $495 i got the tires, mount and ballance, free lifetime rotation, and hazard protection for the tires for life. cut a side wall? get a new one for free.

Front daystar spacer setup...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW

says it only clears 32 inch tires... w/ minor trimming the 33s are no problem at all.

Complete spacer lift :

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW

you'll spend about the same money to get rear springs insted, and the diffrence is night and day.

I had the recall springs done too.... give them a few months, they'll be saggy as hell. Their softer then the ones they replaced them with..
