I am ready to fix the tach and get this thing running but I want to know exactly what needs to be done first.
In the pics hosted on Webshots, can someone describe exactly what is being shown. The two pics show two different circuit boards, one of the pics shows a resistor soldered in but the other shows a white spot (I assume to signify where the resistor should be soldered?) My question is are the two pics the same circuit board in different places or are they two different boards? Basically I am looking for a little more detailed information if anybody has it.
Anybody else successfully complete this yet?

Both those pics are the back of a tach unit. Different tachs, one first gen and one second gen. I'm still trying to figure out a way to make one adapter for both the tach and the A/C if possible. I might get a 3.4 a/c amplifier board and see if that will work, but it's about 75 to 100 bucks and there are wiring problems with that too...

Oh, so the problem with the AC is electrical also, I assumed that custom lines needed to be made. It sounds like you are getting close to figuring it out. Please keep us posted of progress!
We just finished the Total Chaos Long Travel coil-over kit installation on the '89 including installing Glassworks unlimited fenders and cutting the hood to clear the 3.4L. Now that the truck is rolling again we are taking it to the exhaust shop for a custom cross-over and full exhaust. After that, button up the small things and get it on the road.
Still left to do is the,
• Air intake
• 3.0 oil pressure sender
• Tach resistor
• AC???
I can't wait to get this thing on the road!

Well I might not be the sharpest tool in the shed but I'm also not without some skill and I've been beating this horse for a couple of month's now on various sites to no avail so if anyone out there has real time write ups or useful information on this I'd sure like to see it .
I've swapped a 99 3.4 out of a 4wd M/T Tacoma into my 89 runner that came with the 3.0 5spd combo , picked up a 86 or so SR5 cluster out of a 4cyl 4runner but pulling my hair out trying to get tach to work or find good intell on how to proceed . Any help would be much much appreciated .

You ever figure this out? I had a tach working fine until I took my cluster out when refinishing my interior. When we put it back in, something shorted out. Ive tried an different board out of an 86 and everything works except my tach. Not sure whats going on.
