Well that really sucks. I was hoping that was it for ya. Use the scan tool to check the timing advance in the range its losing power. Maybe the computer is doing something funny?

if you watch the br3 video i posted the timing stays at about 32 advanced....which seems very advanced to me....is it possible that from 98 to 01 toyota moved the cam or crank sensor? and because im running a 01 ecu it thinks the motor is in a different position than it actually is?

Sorry i missed the timing first time I watched it. Anyway, to answer your question...I really dont know I have never noticed mine going that far advanced though. It will get well into the 20's (mid to upper 20) under part throttle acceleration, full throttle it seems I remember is around 20ish. And then i have a few degrees of retard programed in so its more like around 17-18. This is off the top of my head, could be off a little. Point is, you are right. That seems pretty far forward to me.
I dont suppose your local toyota mechanic would be willing to help you out?

to be honest they have helped me out...and they are rattled themselves....hahahah.....
i dont think this has anything to do with the "swap" i think this is either a compatability issue with 01 to 98 or some sensor is telling the ecu its all good but its obviously not.....
i have a guy locally here who has done a few swaps and has a couple trucks of his own.....this week we are gonna play "swap the parts" to see if something shows itself.....but as of now.....i got nothin.....
i still think somethin isnt right with timing because in the book it said somethin about timing at idle is usually bouncing between 3 and 19.....mine never goes low at all......mine is always high....i mean im sittin at 17 degrees advanced at idle....still seems high to me...
dont the 3vze run at like -10 degrees at idle? i know this is a 5vze but that's a huge change.....seems to me i should be in the 10 range at idle and maybe the 20 range at WOT.....not the 30s......
skrassow you mind running your motor wot until 70 mph and seeing what your timing is doing?

Sorry I couldnt get to this yesterday. Turns out that its difficult to find room to do a 70mph WOT run down here. Lucky for you I had to be at work at 0530 this morn so I had the road to myself Anyway, here is what I got (note: my scan gauge will not record for some reason, so I have to jot down what I see on the gauge as Im going down the road!)
Gear Throttle Speed Timing
3rd WOT 70 18 (16 Actual)
4th WOT 70 17 (15 Actual)
5th WOT 70 17 (15 Actual)
4th cruise 50 30
5th Cruise 50 25-28
5th Cruise 70 26-28
N Idle 0 9-13
Somehow I didnt manage to get a 3rd gear cruise, but its pretty similiar to the others. Part throttle acceleration is in the 20-30 range. Also keep in mind that I have the supercharger and fuel mods as well as timing calibration. So the WOT runs are about 2 degrees less (the number in ()). I have a max of about 2 degrees of retard programmed in at max boost. I also have a manual tranny. Despite these differences i would think you should be pretty darn close to that. Maybe poke around some of the supercharger threads, I think a few of those guys hooked up the scan gauge and reported numbers before bolting on the blower. But again, I would think these should be close. Hope it helps!

The freakin mystery is over!!!!
So the guys at toyota gave me a number of a local guy here that has done several swaps. So i gave him a ring and went over to his house and we went over everything again. Pulled charger checked everything. Ohmed out all wires on harness etc. everything checked ok. so he wanted to see my harness which TMZ made. well after looking at it he said lets redo this whole thing. because i had nothin else to check i agreed. so we redid the entire thing. Found that the ac wires were wrong and that what was causing my high idle. so that was resolved. problem is still no power. just a good idle now....hahah.....so he had his rock crawler with the same MAF that i had so i asked if i could borrow his because that's about the only thing i have not replaced. so he agreed and i put it in and took off on a test drive.....and LOW AND BEHOLD!!! same problem hahahahah.....still no power. so i pulled off in a parking lot and thought to myself "ok lets go backward here....everyone is saying fuel problem but nothing shows a fuel problem everything is checking out. so what runs the fuel. the maf. so is the maf not seeing enough air to give fuel?" so i looked at the stock airbox i installed. and i looked at the port where the elbow normally is. (i did not install the elbow also did not cut the hole in the inner fender) saw the port pretty close to the wall.....maybe so close there was not enough air. so i took the top off the airbox but left the air filter. reset the ecu and drove back to his house. and no ....i lit my 32s up all the way threw 1st gear....i mean it was like this motor just found 150 hp. motor pulls HARD! all the way to rev limiter, in every gear.
so after all of this it was a stupid thing on my end. just not enough air. if i wasnt so anal about oem and went with an intake system like most swap people use....i would have never had this problem. but with everyone telling me fuel problem i never thought twice about the intake box.
i wanna thank everyone for their help and if there is anything good to come out of this....i liternally have everything brand new. haha....
now i can finally move on to sas...and 7th injector!!!

Wow what an ordeal, at least you finally found it!
I'm having power issues up top and might try opening the air box up instead of getting new 02 sensors first.
How do you know if your running lean?

couple ways.....if you have a br3 you can read your fuel trims or if you dont have that you could pull your plugs and see if they are fouled....
