As for adding power, i have tried it all, the only thing that will give you any real noticable change in power is a supercharger.
I am putting my truck on the dyno on thusday and will see what i am making. I am also going to test the differnce between the stock intake and a short-ram.
Headers will give you about 15hp but are a pain to install.
Other then that, a normal tuneup and synthtic oil is about all you can do.

Don't waste your money on bolt-on's. Supercharger makes the only noticable difference, but even at that wasn't overly impressive. Also has the premium gas penalty, so I am glad to have a N/A 3.4L. It has all the power I need to get to where I'm going and to haul what I need.

Put simply, i thought my RX7 was fast, my truck makes it look slow and now the RX7 is gone.
Plus it is nice to have 4wd, that way you can step on it and not worry about getting every cops attention.
Poors mans 1/4mile puts me in the 13's. plan to go to a proper track sometime and get a real number. But 13's on a 5000lb truck is pretty impressive.

could the slight difference in tacoma versus 4runner HP with the 3.4 also be attributed to the 4runner weighing more due to having more "body"?

A 137hp increase with a URD kit isn't impressive? When I drive my brother's N/A 4Runner I sometimes wonder what's wrong with it until I remind myself it's missing over 100hp...

Thats possible, i will admit that the acsess road i do stuff like this on IS in fact downhill (not much but a slight downhill). That number is with a stop watch and looking at the OD so i would be surprised if it is not off. I reasonably expect to be in the mid to upper 14's though.
Gadget ran a 15 in his truck with less power then i should have.
Speed on a 1/4, yes, engine power, no. Body has nothing to do with the engine power, just how fast the truck goes down the road.

A stock 3.4 auto has around 145 to 150rwhp. My 3.4 has all the go fast parts. My best mod had to be......flex-a-lite 210/220 dual electric fans bolts right up looks factory and noticed engine revs quicker with less throttle input.....sweet!

I agree not to do the bolt on's but i disagree about the supercharger not being impressive.

Besides, it's a truck. I drive it like a truck. Don't expect any more, any less.
BTW, Texas Ace, I'll have to call BS (politely as I can) on the 13 second time slip, if all you have is a blower and some headers.
EDIT: I see where you said mid-high 14's. Still would say mid 14's would be tough when you're trying to move ~18lbs per HP.

Horsepower is measured on a static dyno. Weight doesn't factor in. 1/4 mile & 0 to 60 is where weight & body aerodynamics matter.

217 LB/FT torque
hit the ECT button if you want more oomph. Or at least the impression of it

I've tried just about every mod, including ceramic headers when I was N/A. No standard bolt on mods can touch a tuned/SC'd 5VZFE. I run a slightly different tuning set up than most though (not the URD kit). Check my profile for more info.
If you're not ready to shell out a couple grand, just do the deckplate or elbow mod and the ISR mod. Have a magnaflow or similar welded in and call it a day.
And for all those haters of the sc'r, let's not forget scenarios such as towing, loaded down with gear, etc. and going up hills or trying to pass. Or perhaps that funny grin that develops pretty much anytime you get on it...
