3.4 + 33s + 5spd = what gears?

I will be looking to put some 33x10.5 or 33x12.5s on my 4runner in a few months and I was just curious as to which gears are correct for my set-up. I have 4.10s now and don't want to be extra slow. It's 5spd, 3.4. Also in 5th on the hiway does anybody know the rpm's I can expect with the new gears. I did a search but if someone has a link then that's good too. Thanx.

4.88 would be nice. that would get you up to speed nice, as far as highway 4.10 or 4.56's would be better for cruising once up to speed. If you plan on going any bigger in tire size in the near future i would deffinetly go with 4.88's. Get 12.5 theyll look way better than 10.5's

With the 3.4 power, I would go for 4.56's to help keep the highway mileage up. And definitely go for 33x10.50's, the tall skinny look is in for 2nd gens, and they perform very well in mixed off road conditions.

I have a 3.4, 5-speed, with 4.30's and run 295's on the highway. At 75 MPH I am at 2800 RPMs and see 18 MPG.

4.30's would be perfect, if you do alot of highway miles, 4.56 would make it close to stock configuration. I run 4.88's and 35's, but if I were to do it all over again I'd go 4.56.

I've been looking for that automatic gear changing diff!! Ha!Ha! I do agree with you that 12.5 looks better but I'm thinking 10.5 my be good for my my setup. Sounds like 4.56 is the way to go, just gotta get the money back up.

I was running 255/85's on my '98 with the 5 speed and 4.10's. I cruised on the highway really nice. I went to 33's to get my RPM's down on the highway since that is where most of my driving is. I got a little bit better MPG too.

I just did the 33x10.50 on my taco 3.4 5spd 4.10s. It lost a little power but is still very driveable. The only real negative effect is the 4lo 1st seems much faster than before. SO, if you off road a lot do the 4.56 if you spend more time on pavement stay with the 4.10s

4.56 gears will actually give you slightly lower gearing than stock (4.10 & 31's) so you will be running slightly higher RPM at the same speed....Make sense?

It is super close, but it is a slightly lower ratio overall.

Everyone I know that wetn 4.56 and 33's always wishes they had gone to 4.88's b/c they ended up getting 35's later.

I have 4.88's, 5spd and 285's (33") and I can get 17mpg if I keep it under 70mph, over 70mph it gets 16mpg. I can also tow a 3700 pound camper with no problems at any speed I would like.
