3.0 oil pressure

3.0 oil pressure
After I took my girlfriend home tonight I noticed my guage didnt seem right. at idle its between L and the first hashmark and at 55 its a hair to the right of the first hashmark. If I remember correctly Its normally somewhere in the middle. What do you guys think? Im battling a small oil leak i know but im giving the leak stop detergent a week before I go in for work.

CHECK YOUR OIL MAN QUICK.. that gauge is directly proportional to the amount of oil you have. It should be higher than that at cruising speed. My buddy had his pressure real low one day and had no oil due to a "small leak" No oil is bad

I don't know why I didn't remember this sooner. I've had sparkplugs come loose on a couple of occasions and the only indication was that all of a sudden the oil pressure seemed lower than normal. Hope that helps.

I found this old post and I am experiencing the same pressure characteristics. Mine pressure at idle is closer to the L than the first hash mark, and at cruising in 5th gear its right in the middle of the 2nd and 3rd hash mark. My oil level is full.
When I start the truck in the morning and the engine is cold the needle is right in the middle of the guage at idle and is the same or a bit higher when driving in 5th gear. Only after its been running for a good while 2 hrs or so does the pressure not seen as high.??? Sometimes while running in 3rd or 4th gear the needle is only a hair above the first hash mark.
The manual says that as long as its between the first hash mark and the third its in the norm. But it seems afwully low to me sometimes.
Oh yea its a 1993 3.0 SR5 5-Speed with 73K miles.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same question about my truck. My oil gauge seemed always too low.
What I did is when I changed my oil, I filled it exactly what the haynes manual said, then checked my dipstick to see exactly were the oil level was on the dipstick. This gave me an acturate way to measure my oil level.
THen I drove the truck to see what the oil pressure guage said. it still read about the same as before, and about the same as yours. Everything was running perfectly on my truck, didn't over heat or anything. so I figure it's ok.
If you get bored next time you change the oil. you can do the measure to make sure your oil levels are right.

I just had the oil changed by the dealer with a toyota filter, with Mobil 1. The oil level is within the proper level. I guess thats just where its supposed to be. It runs great and the temperature stays right where it supposed to be.
I just don;t want it to cause any problems down the road.
Does anyone think that it could be my oil pump or sender is faulty?

Nother oil question
I went to go check my oil the other day, casue i was board. Pulled out the stick, and to my surprise no oil reading on the dip stick.......check it again, again , and again.....no dice. Turned it on,check it real quick, and oil is at normal level WTF. And my pressure goes up and down a lot depending if my foot is on the gas or not. Help in hartfofrd

Oil pressure guages do exactly what the name implies, reads oil pressure. It is linked by physics to amount of oil in crank case. Example if you over fill your vehicle with oil you don't get more oil pressure.... dddduuuuuhhhh.
If you think that the interior gauges are accurate you are very mistaken. Try a mechanical test guage in the idiot gauge hole in the block and compare it. Chances are that it ( the factory guage since it has no numbers on it ) is wrong. Then you have an exact comparison.
