2wd off-road

2wd off-road
I was out a few weeks ago working at a job that was really out in the backwoods of Florida, and as I was driving I back to the interstate I came to a point where there was a sandlot/field that was about 75 yards from a main road that got right back onto I-75.
I decided that rather then spend 20 minutes travelling backroads I'd just go across the lot and be right out on the interstate. It was one of those situations where I knew I probably shouldn't have done it since I've only got 2wd, but I did it anyways.
Ever been in one of those situations? Any more of you 2wd people been in this position where you think to yourself "this probably isn't a very good idea" but did it anyways?
I'd like to hear some 2wd off-roading stories...

ps - just for the record I made it through fine despite a few sand traps that had me a little worried once or twice

2WD can be very challenging to wheel with. i have gotten stuck on small little dips where one rear wheel would lift off the ground and i would be stuck. its pretty embarrassing. with a locker, it helps quite a bit, but a 4x4 still reigns supreme over a locked 2WD. especially on hill climbs, in most cases, you want the front tires pulling as well as the rear pushing.
but i gotta say, u learn the limits of your truck very quickly when you wheel with 2WD. and a lot of times it will surprise you on how well it can do if u just know how to approach things.

I'd like to make it known that I'm not advocating going out in the woods alone and running your 2wd truck thru sandpits. I had my cell phone with me, I had a friend that only lived 15 minutes away, and I felt I have enough knowledge to get myself unstuck from the sand were it to happen.
Re-reading my post I just felt it needed to be added.

my first vehicle was a 79 ford ranger f100, and i had just put new tires on it, and i took this offroading all the time with buddys with 4x4. it did remarkably well, but i always had someone with me just in case. well, one night, i was driving out in a nearby town called finley, 20 from here, and noticed 2 sets of headlights spinning circles out in this field, so i figured what the heck, i'll drive out there and see what they're playing in. about 20 seconds into me driving out to the field, both pairs of headlight stoped and i saw reverse lights, the driving lights, reverse and driving, and im laughing. well, just to see what i was in, i opened my door and i was a little less than 1/2 up my tires in mud. needless to say i didn't stop and safely made it back to the road.

^ Very true.
I try everything with my truck in 2wd, and if I can't make it, I put it in 4wh. If I still can't make it, I use 4wl. If I then can't make it out or up or on or off, or whatever I'm attempting, I look around for Jeeps (act like you're not stuck when they're around), and when none are in sight, dig your damn self out!

I have an '83 2wd yota long bed with just a 3 inch body lift and 30 inch rubber and i have yet to get it stuck even where 4x4s have. The key is to be willing to hold the pedal to the floor at all costs.... Unfortunately the truck is on its third set of shocks in the last six months and getting the tires aligned is pretty much a waste of time.... I guess fun has its price.
