Did some 2wd pickup's come with the 8" rear? I pulled a 3rd out of one and it has 31 splines... I thought all came with 27 splines... The axles are 5 lug though. Is this a 7 1/2" or 8"... I always thought they where 7 1/2"...

 

there were some bastard years in the 80's when the 2wd's got 5-lug axles.

I don't know much about this stuff, but while researching a regear for my own 2wd truck (98 4Runner), I found out it's an 8" on the V6.

 

Any 84-88 2wd with a 4 speed came with an 8" ring gear, 31 spline and five lug. Also I have noticed is these trucks usually have a steeper gear. What gear ratio is yours?
