285's or not???

I've got a 2" lift via cornfed spacers on my 2000 4wd 4runner. I have 265/75/r16 BFG ATs, which I put on before the lift. These tires did not scrub at all before the lift so I was wondering if I could fit 285's on my 4runner now that it is an extra 2" higher. I don't plan on doing too much offroading, so I am mainly concerned with scrubbing at full turns. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

you'll probably need a 1" body lift at least. You probably don't have much sag with the spacer lift, but I think you'll still need the BL and maybe some minor trimming/pounding

tarheelrunner are you in chapel hill. I think they would fit if you dont have flares. If you fit 265's then with 2 inches you sould be able to fit 285's.

I'm actually in Kinston, but I am going up to UNC for school in the fall. I do have the limited fender flares, but I would be willing to trim them up some in that will make the tires fit. Where are the main areas that I would have to trim or pound?

If you don't wheel it, you'll probably just have to cut flares. If you wheel it, there will be pinchweld pounding involved and flare trimming.

I'd say don't go 285's unless you are prepared to cut or install a body lift. I had my 285's with just the OME lift, and I rubbed like crazy after a while..All over.

I rub offroading.

Also rub when the fronts are at a particular angle through a full turn. They're hitting the part where the mudflap joins the wheel well. Needless to say the middle clip that holds the mudflap on is gone from this.

Hit a dip to hard and the fronts will rub. I need to crank up the coils some. Right now they're just set to even out the truck with the rear. No suspension lift on the rear, just the 1" lift BL.

I have the Saw/Ome setup with the Revo 285's. Like they said above it you go down a steep dip or on some turns they rub. I have a 1" RB body lift that I need to install--this should cure the problem.

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like it will definitely be a tight fit if I do end up going with the 285's. My best bet would probably be to get 285's mounted on the front just to see how bad they scrub. What do tire shops normally do as far as test fitting goes (i.e. cost)?

Also, while we are on the subject of 285's, how bad would the larger tire size hurt gas mileage and acceleration? I do plan on going with either the Goodyear MTR or the BFG M/T, so I know that the mud-terrain will definitely change how my car drives and rides.

Do you have a Limited? I ran 285's on my old Runner w/ only an OME HD lift w/ no problems... I also had them on there w/ NO LIFT and they rubbed LIKE CRAZY... I definitely don't recommend that!!! We're in Cary off of Tryon... we should get together... we won't hold that whole UNC-CH thing against you.. we promise.

I got 285s w/ a 2" RB body lift and rubbed on turning and stuffing just while on road. After getting about 3" of lift w/ an OME susp. lift I have had no problems, but I did have to trim the fender well lining, take off the fender flares so they didn't get ripped off and pound flat the pinch weld. No rubbing on 2 trips to Tellico after some more fender lining trimming. If you want the 285s be prepared to do the other stuff to wheel it!

I do have a Limited, so I guess I will have to trim up those bulky fender flares. I think I will probably give the 285s a try, as long as I can find somebody who wants my current tires. Thanks again for all the advice!!
