265/70/R16 vs 265/75/R16 on 2000 4Runner

Hi All,

I have a 2000 4Runner that I lifted a few years back and threw 33's on it. Overall, while awesome while wheeling, I felt like I lost a ton of power and speed going down the road (which I do 95% of the time). So I swapped back to stock 265/70/R16s. Now it is time to get some new tires and I was wondering about splitting the difference with 265/75/R16s. Do you think the extra inch would have a similar negative impact?

Another thought that I just had as I am typing this was that the 33's were mud MK2s and this time I am looking at a A/T Duratrac. Perhaps that had more impact to the power/speed than the size. Thoughts?

Thanks for any/all help!!
Chris

Chris,
I'm on my 4th or 5th set of 265/75/16 tires - first Dueler ATs and then a few sets of Nitto Terra Grapplers. No issues with rubbing, etc. As for power loss, I've never really noticed a significant change, but I've also kept the transmission in ECT mode for 17+ years and I constantly click on & out of O/D as conditions warrant.

That reminds me, my current tires sound like they have flounders attached to them....

Thanks Andreas! I mainly stay in ECT mode as well. I'm in Colorado, so I need it to get over Vail and Eisenhower at anything over 50mph!

I am leaning toward going with the 265/75R16s. One thing I noticed was this moves the tire into the E rating from the C rating of the 265/70R16s which may help with the sidewall issues I've heard about.

Thanks again!!

My various sets of Nitto Terra Grapplers have been Load Range D.
