Exclamation 22re problems

I recently installed a 22re with wiring harness and ecu out of a 88 automatic 4x4 truck. My truck is a 1985 4x4 with manual trans. that came factory with a 22re. I have everything hooked up, but I can not get the motor to turn over. I can hear a clicking noise coming from the pass. side of the truck. The fuel pump is working. I read in other postings about the the park switch and the neutral saftey switch, but I am not sure what they mean by jumping the wire? Please Help!

No, just clicks. I have tried the starter that came with the motor and a brand new one. Nothing. I have even held the starter with the wires attached, still Nothing.

have you tried testing the starter alone outside the vehicle?

first of all, you should have just put the long block(engine minus the intake and exhaust manifolds) from the '88 in your truck and slapped your manifolds on. would've saved a LOT of headaches.

the neutral safety switch goes to the ECU i think, and it won't start without the clutch in(manual tranny) or in park(auto). jumping the wire means defeating the switch, and just splicing a piece of wire where the 2 wires from the switch come out.

Yes, the starter test fine. I would have done that but I sold my entire efi setup on ebay. I dont believe that the automatic connectors even make it to the ecu because the connector that connects on the harness is totally different than my manual connector.

The clicking that I was hearing is the circuit open relay for the fuel pump...Still not even trying to start?

Have you checked your coil and igniter? I had similar problems when I put a 90 22re in my 88 and used the original 88 harness.
