22re max PSI boost?
Hey guys rebuilding my 22re just doing it stock internals. i am gonna get the DOA c270 cam(or a turbo cam if i turbo it), new rockers, i have oversized Valves that i am going to have put in as well as some new guides, i will be porting and polishing the head, i have a Header for it and 2 1/2" exhaust, K&N FIPK, Jacobs IGN system, i am also getting my Injectors cleaned and balanced,(or new injectors if needed).
Ok so what i want to know is with a stock internal 22re stock compression how much boost can they handle and what octain fuel would be needed or would that be asking for trouble, i am thinking 8-10psi with some bigger injectors but am not sure if the engine can take it.
So what do you guys think it is not much about cost as i have two diff turbos sitting around and i am itching to do an install on something i want to put the t70 on this thing as it reaches high boost levels at lower rpms and i think with a 4CYL that is perfect since there isnt much exhaust flow to spin the thing.
Should i turbo or how do these engines take to NO2 nitrous is alot more $$ but it would be sweet when i am in a mud hole and need to get the tires up to speed?? any ideas?

There is a thread concerning nitrous on a 22re, just search "nitrous" and that'll be some good info. If my memory serves me, I thought the stock 22re-t ran something like 8psi. I may be mistaken, but I wouldn't go over 8-ish, and bigger injectors would be a good idea. Anytime you add more air, add more fuel, and vice versa. If you haven't got your parts for rebuild check out engnbldr, its fairly cheap, and they have some upgraded internal parts as well, you might as well upgrade, esp. if you do decided to go with Nitrous. Btw, welcome to the board.

Thanks for the welcome i think i will be around for a while and if i do anything wild i will do some tech writeups on the progress. my future plan is to drop a V8 i would love a Lexus 1uzfe 2 or 3uzfe as they are tough and i would love to do a mid engine twin turbo v8 when i have the cash. i am building more of a baja offroad truck but it is going to still be a good mudder.
i am going with the engnbldr kit as i have only heard good things and he has some awsome deals on ebay.. the only difference i know about the 22re and 22rte is that the turbo version has dished low comp pistons and is like 7.4-1 instead of 9.whatever the 22re is and they also have a different head on them were the combustion chamber is bigger i belive so i dont know if the 22re could handle the same boost as the turbo ??
but i know with most cars that run turbos the boost can almost be doubled safely so maby the 22rte could do 14psi (i read that for every 14psi your HP doubles so 100hp would be closer to 200 at 14 psi and like 300-400 at 28psi that would be tight i am sure it is not always like that but i guess that is a close guess)
I would build stonger internals but i dont want to spend 3K$ on this engine i would rather save that money and get a V8.
Has anyone done a Dodge swap like say a 340 with a 4speed.
I have a dream engine to put in this truck and it is out of my 65 Oldmobile Starfire 425CI 4brl High output and it pushes up ward of 350hp and 420lbs torque. that would be a sweet mid engine build up with twin turbos or a super charger (i like turbos better though) Oh to dream it hurts when reality sets in....

Ok i found this on http://www.toysport.com/ and i say Wow i want to build mine like the 22ret
"The factory set the boost at 5.5-6 pounds, but completely stock internals survived boosts of up to 17-22 pounds, with proper fuel injection modifications"
Now that is impressive so i think that the 22re should be able to handle an easy 10-14.5 lbs would i be wrong in assuming this i know the only major diff is the compression. due to dished pistons and a The cylinder head's combustion chamber had a different shape? maby i could find a used turbo head and just put some low compression pistons then run 16lbs of boost WHOOOSHHH lol i will do some more reading peace.

Yes i think i am going to get some forged turbo pistons the dished ones i will get high flow Injectors (not sure what ones yet) oversized valves i might modify my header for turbo or have my friend make me a turbo header, also i will look into the LC turbo cam for 22re and also will look into the megasquirt FI computer mod. maby do a small intercooler but dont think i will be pushing more then 10-14.5 PSI, (Toysport say with forged pistons and metal head gasket and FI upgrades and 3" exhaust on the 22ret you can push 25LBS of boost and run 300-350HP WOW i dont know about that but hey you never know) i will look into a metal head gasket though, i would love to see 200 HP & 240lbs of torque
maby with an intercooler? i know there is more i need to do but this is all that comes to mind. anyone know were to get an electric Oil pump i would like to build a independent oil system for the turbo with it own Filter , cooler pump and resevoir(SP) what do you think? soud doable to you guys i think i will do something like this but if i decide to turbo i will not start until after Xmas and the new year as i dont have enough time right now.

Jeff Moskovitz has a very well done turbo truck. Lots of info on his site.

as far as the 22RTE on the net goes, mosk's site is pretty much the bible. for 15lbs of boost, you're gonna need to do some serious fuel system and engine modifications. forged pistons will be a MUST.
the crank and rods are forged from the factory, and the rods are supposedly good for 300hp. if you do manage to go over that, eagle makes forged H beam rods as well. probably going to want to use a good metal head gasket also.

i think ARP studs are a prerequisite for a turbo engine. i'm not sure i'd want to run cast pistons either(the stocker turbo pistons were a deep dish cast piece). forged is just much better for forced induction.
