i wouldn't rejet it at all, i've noticed these engines tend to run a little rich anyway. you're not going to have pinging issues on a 22R with a carb, especially with an early engine with only 9.0:1 compression!

all you need to do to kill the EGR system is get block-off plates and install them in place of the EGR valve on the head and the pipe on the intake. you can get rid of a lot of vacuum hoses this way as well, this is how i have my truck rigged up(carb is off being rebuilt right now), it runs GREAT like this.

i've only got the advance/retard on the distributor, AAP, choke opener, and choke breaker hooked up on my truck. i don't have a thermo switch(aftermarket air cleaner) and no charcoal canister so i blocked that port off:

i bought mine from LC Engineering, i think it was around $20 for a set of aluminum EGR plates. i also bought their billet air cleaner adapter, that lets me run a typical 5" flange american air filter

I'm thinking of doing this as well. Just get some caps and cover the unused lines on the carb right?

I have an 87 22r and Im new to the whole EGR thing and am planning on removing it this weekend. what kind of difference will this make in the performance of my truck? I don't live in California and will never go there so im not worried about emissions. Im planning on just making my own block-off plate.

Why bother removing all that stuff? You could just disable it by plugging the vacuum line leading to the EGR valve. You'll notice that it will make very little noticeable difference in how the truck runs.
