20r and 22 r motor

20r and 22 r motor

i just blew up te 22r motor and we got a 20r motor to drop back into my truck is there anything i can swap onto the 20 r motor from the 22r ? i know the intake is diffrent but can i swap carbs ? or heads?

what year 22R? the 20R will bolt in, but the carb and emissions wiring/hoses will be different. as for the tranny and engine mounts, it's the same as a 22R.

you can put a 20R head on an '81-84 22R and vice versa.

Intake is different yes. But exhaust is all the same. Depending on what blew on the 22R, you may be able to hybrid the 2 engines.

If you swap the 22R head for the 20R, you'll get an imediate increase in compression
(= more power).

thats if he has an early 22r

and no, you won't get a noticeable increase in compression. the combustion chamber on the 20R head is just a tad smaller than the 22R. the main gain is throttle response and it's ability to rev higher, since the 20R uses a smaller ports that go directly to the combustion chamber, instead of around a swirl ledge like a 22R.
