2001 Stock Fog Lights

My driver's side stock fog light lens has got a big crack in it and it is allowing water/moisture to get inside the lamp. Does anyone know if I can just buy a replacement lens or do I have to buy a brand new lamp? If I can't replace the lens, does anyone have a stock lamp that they are trying to sell? Later.

If you find a set, I will be willing to go halfsies. I have one that is cracked as well. Mine is on a 99, but they should be the same lens.

The lens on the factory lamps is removeable, however Toyota does not sell a replacement. They sell a "replacement assembly" only which includes the entire lamp. I have called Toyota Corporate and they will not disclose the lamp manufacturer so we cannot even persue the manufacturer for a seperate lens.

The lamps are Hella. There is a seller that sells them on Ebay. Here is his Ebay name:

ptcfactoryoutlet

I don't think he has any right now but you could always email him as he puts them on there every couple of weeks for sale.

I just emailed Hella with that part number to check if just the lens is available. I will post when I get a response.

Need to be clear about which lamps we are talking about. There is a Hella kit sold for SR-5's. The factory Limited lamp is made by Stanley. The Hella does not fit the Limited. The Limited lamp is sold as an assemble only. Lists for $362.34, about $272 from Conicelli. If you have a cracked lens check to see if your auto insurance covers it. Mine did.

Thanks for all of the feedback guys. Hbum, what exactly did you tell your insurance company and did they buck you at all about replacing them?

Correct, The dealer installed Toyota kit is made by Hella. My 1999 Highlander with factory installed lamps say Stanley on them. Both are sealed beam. I know that the Stanleys use a double lens system which has an "internal convex lamp behind an external flat lens to direct light onto a sharp-focus beam that all but eliminates stray light." The external flat lens is replaceable, if you can find the part...I have not been able to locate a source. I have heard the Hellas flat lens does not remove seperatly so Hella will not be able to offer a seperate lens. But someone with the Hellas will need to confirm that.

I talked with my insurance company today. They will cover it but I still have to pay my $250 deductible. Definitely not worth it. We gotta find a lens or someone selling their stock fogs. I am going to check some local junk yards tomorrow. Later.

LSUMatt,
I have State Farm insurance, $250 deductable collision, $50 deductable other than collision. They covered it under the $50 deductable, no hassle, no problem. I told them the truth, that to the best of my knowledge that a rock hit it. I have no idea when it happened.

By the way I also attended LSU.

Hbum,
Thanks. I will have to talk to them about that tomorrow. I've got Progressive so I would think that they would have something similar. What years were you at LSU? Watch the game on Saturday? UNBELIEVEABLE!!!!! I think it's time for a changing of the guard in the SEC.

I lucked out today. I posted this same question on the other forum and a guy responded with the following info.

http://catalog.com/susq/
Ken Beard: 717-993-2215 or email kenbeard@nfdc.net for Pricing and availability.

I sent him an email last night with the link above to the ebay auction that had the foglights up for bids. He responded back and said that they are indeed Hella Micro DEs and he had one in stock for $58 plus $8 shipping. Pretty awesome considering the dealer wants $250+ for two of them. I told him that there were several people on the forum interested in buying one from him and he said that he would order some more.

The Hella DE's (same as Toyota Dealer installed fogs) are an affordable solution to replacing the Factory fogs...as long as you relaize they are not the same as the Stanleys. Some people have reported on ODW that the quality is inferior.

The fogs on the SR5, Sport, 4R Highlander and Limited are exactly the same as long as they were factory installed, they are the Stanleys. If you did not have Fogs and dealer ordered or ebay'd them then you have the Hella DE's. Hella DE's are aftermarket even though they have a Toyota part number. Many vehicles use these Hella DE's as dealer installed lights. Just look on EBay you will see the DE's for Mercedes and Celicas quite often, the only difference is the bracket to make it fit many different vehicles. Also do a search on ODW and you will hear stories of the DE's prematurely rusting, getting fogged and water logged, etc...

Question 100w bulbs?

Has anyone switched to 100w bulbs in the fog lights? Any adverse effect? Worth switching?

I think I was the last holdout for the Hella Micro DEs as I had no problems with mine. After 1.5 to 2 years, mine have corroded away. I noticed one had considerably less output recently so I planned on changing the bulb. I got under the truck and noticed all the corrosion from the rear near the rubber boot. When I took the boot off, all this crap fell out; it looked like ash from a fire. One lamp is worse than the other, but both are on their way out.

Anyway, these things suck. I will try writing to Hella, but I have to say this is disappointing. I bought mine from PP, so I might try calling them as well.
