1st Gen Taco, evap canister questions...

I have a 2002 Tacoma 2.7 now.

Topped off the gas in my new to me 02 Tacoma 2.7 & did not know I was NOT supposed to top off the tank. Result was fuel overflowed into the evap canister I think.

Check engine light has been on since. Ran the codes & got P0440, P0441, P0446

If I can't get the light to reset & stay off I'm looking at having to drop the tank & replace the evap vapor canister. Alternate/OEM Part Number(s): 7774004010, VC4056

I have purchased a replacement evap canister.

Has anyone replaced this part? I read that I may have to remove the bed or drop the gas tank, then I read I may not need to do either.

Looking for clarification or advice. Thanks.

Not sure about your 2002 and it being a 2.7

But my 3.4 2000 the evap canister is in the engine compartment on the left inner fender.

Toyota could very well moved things for some reason

I have no idea why Topping off or having a pump that didn`t shut off which happens to me quite often.

If this was a problem what happens in the sun when the gas expands The gas door would be plastered with warnings .

Would trigger your codes .

It can be caused by a bad gas cap gasket.

Then it can be caused by quite a number of things the evap canister is only one.

I for one would want to know just what the real problem is before changing good parts.

Unless your truck has like 250,000 miles and is in need of a major restore
