1st gen 4runner cab headliner removal Q

Anybody know what it takes to remove the headliner on an '85 4Runner? I found somebody parting out a body on one and am thinking of replacing my in cab headliner since it wound up with a big tear where I had the garage door opener on my visor. I'm hoping to not have to pull the shell to do it and don't have a manual for my '85.
I've already got dibs on the sr5 bucket seats woo-hoo! Finally going to be riding in comfort and adjustability.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You do not have to remove the shell to remove it, but it is nice to have it off. it will come out easily if you remove all the herdware around it. IE the rearview mirror front plastic and pillar plastic. Be careful not to force it out. and watch out for the bows! I had mine out last year and reinstalled it with no problem. Good luck

Thanks for the info! I think I'll get ahold of him and see what he wants for the headliner as well. Do you remember if there are any hidden screws or anything that might add to frustration levels? This is my "spare" truck so I don't have to hurry and get it done, but it'd be nice to get it done and overwith before it turns into one of those "man, I need to get that done one of these days" deals.

Not that I can remember. The fron part of the headliner just folds onto a rim where it is glued and held in. just be patient because it is old and could be brittle in places. Take youre time when installing it too. you may want to have someone else help you.
