1999 Limited body molding removal

Help,

Does anyone with a Limited have any pictures of a 4runner with the side molding and wheel molds removed?
I also was curious to see if anyone has had issues with rust hiding behind the side molding... and if there are pernament marks on the body?

Thanks!!!

I thought there are some large square holes used to mount the flares.

I've thought about doing it if I go to bigger tires.

Are there a ton of holes for the wheel molds also? I was afraid the doors would have a bunch of holes in them...

Has anyone taken them off to see whats up, and my biggest worry...... RUST lurking beneath???

I have taken the limited flairs off of my 2000. I do not have body molding. The moldings leave behind 8 square holes of varying sizes on each front fender and 11 holes around each rear fender opening. Right now I have mine plugged with rubber plugs I got at home depot. I started off with plastic plugs that I painted the body color but many of those have been removed from their adhesived homes by trees. mike

Thanks guys for the pics.. especially Mikes picture... that pretty much sums it up. As long as these areas are not prone to holding rust, since mine is a 1999 and I am trying to keep the body free from rust.

Its too bad the holes are left in the body, I wanted to remove the wheel molds to see if I liked them off.... guess not. (and I spent all of my money on a limited too )

I like some sort of flare on the 3rd gens since w/o they look too plain and I do like the Limiteds but sometimes the flares look to big/wide from some angles. I'm very happy with my older style SR5 flares but Bushwacker makes nice ones for the 3rd gens that mimic the Limited's but don't stick out so far.

I might be taking mine off and Line-X'ing over where they used to be. This is only if I move up in tire size to a Q78 swamper, though.

X-AWdriver,

Yes, I agree too about how it looks good most of the time, but sometimes does look awkward with the fender flares sticking out... hopefully when I lift mine it will look better. I do love my Limited, but my driver side leather seat is beginning to crack.

Get some rubber to fill those flares up and you will be happy! Plus they do a good job of keeping rocks off the side of your truck. I've considered taking mine off, but I really don't like the holes. Makes for an unfinished look. If you plug them and paint the plugs, I suppose thats a little better, but (sorry uboat) I think it still looks like crap. There is a guy around town in a heep that took his off, basicly to make his stock BFG ATs look bigger. They sort-of look bigger, and his rig looks like its falling apart. To each their own

Gangus2006,
I'm going to keep them on
My main concern was trapping rust behind the molds but it doesnt look like that is going to be the case.

Damn.. part of the reason I bought the limited was cause of the fender flares. I think they look good. I see your point about them sticking out.... but with the addition of aftermarket wheels, just buy the right offset so they run flush with the body and you'll have a sweet looking stance!
