1998 4Runner Towing Package

I have a 98 4runner with the towing package, and I need the brake light hookups.

Do these come stock or what? I looked around and couldn't see anything.

It seems silly that they'd give you a hitch, but not the brake light wires. I need to hook my trailer up before I get a ticket...

I know, early bump. But I use this trailer ALL the time now that its mowing season, and I really want the lights.

I've tried searching (here, UY, and google)

On the third gens isn't it underneath back by the gas door on the drivers side? Where the tail pipe would come out if it were on the dr side?

This is from an 02, I guess it's different on a 98

it sounds really weird that the plug wouldn't be there. my 98 has the package and the wire is pretty evident. i'm sure if there is one hooked up, that you would have found it by now.

you may have to get a kit and do some splicing.

I had to install the plug. They make a kit that 'plugs' into the existing tail light wiring harness at the rear of the truck(inside the hatch). If you are running electric brakes on the trailer I had to run a power wire from the battery. Good luck .
