DARE cars are normally siezed from criminals.

Also, the cost of doing all that to a 4Runner is nothing compared to the average cost of upfitting and equipping a police vehicle, much less buying an ambulance or fire apparatus. Our newest rescue/pumper cost over $650,000!

Also, that 4th gen is an EMS vehicle The PD can't have all the fun!

The thing I find interesting is that the lightbar on the back of the first 4Runner is on backwards

That 2nd or 1st gen runner is probably a guys real ride, a DARE officer (they usually are the ones incapable of doing real work, but not always) tends to have the fun car. The oens near me drove a nice outfitted GM donated camaro.

that one was supposedly a back road truck, used for busting up highschool parties, etc, it was in an area where most of the roads are unimproved.

Really, i figure, its pretty damn cool that they are outfitting a police car at all, even if it is for dare stuff only.

If anyone knows what settings to put my powershot on to take better pics that would be swell, that's the best I can get for now.

Hey, UNR.Grad - you beat me to it!

I was just about to say that the 4R (3G and 4G) are probably the most popular personal SUVs used by the police (at least on Oahu). Smattering of Explorers and Tahoes, couple of Durangos, Trailblazers here and there, but by far and away the most popular police SUV is the 4R. These are not the dept. issued vehicles (Crown Vic, Impala), but personal vehicles used for patrol duties (allowable here).
