1986 Toyota Pickup Track times?
#41
Back to the subject of 1/4 mile times... Get yourself a GTech Pro off of ebay to get a close estimate of what it would run at the track. I paid 40 bucks for mine with shipping. The mph usually reads 3 to 5 mph faster but the times are 1 or 2 tenths off which is pretty dang good.

The nice thing about the adjustable fan is that my engine is always "crisp" in throttle response. With the old mechanical fan setup, my truck use to get kinda "spongy" when the outside temps got warm enough or if the engine was under a high load for long period of time. I used to hate that. The adjustable electric fan has cured that problem.
You can also do the "junkyard" Taurus electric fan mod to save $$$, but then you'd have a F*rd part on your Yota. Yuck! LOL! Also, I don't think the Taurus fan is adjustable like the Flexalite 165. I've been running the FAL 165 for almost 2-years now without a single problem.

Sorry but both the evo and the skyline will ass rape the bimmer without any KY jelley including the M5 on the twisties and the 1/4.... They will do the same to ANY vehicle that does not have AWD in stock form.
But that is not the point, to get our trucks "fast" we'd need at least 400bhp before they could do anything....

And angular acceleration is differant than linear acceleration. You are talking about centripetal acceleration.
Anyway, have you thought about a power adder or do you want to go all motor?

for what it is worth
1984 4x4 pickup 22r header 5 speed etc 21-22 seconds mid 50's thru traps
2001 4x4 pickup S/C vs auto 16.83 at 80 something mph nosed over at 1000 feet truck leans out bad under WOT no knock just runs out of fuel
all times at 5800 feet above sea level
dont have timeslips with me but the 84s times were not impressive
the turbo 22r does make a difference--that I know we had one running earlier this year at the track I work at and it was as almost as fast as my v6
follow the basics; open the intake and exhaust, tune the motor, fill up tires to the proper specs, and the most important thing, go to a drag strip, shell out the 30 or so bucks and run it on a test nite.

my truck could do 0-60 in about 10 seconds or so. main issue i had was that there was a pretty big jump between 2nd and 3rd gear if i remember correctly, so i had to rev it up pretty good in 2nd(not a problem!)

mine could turn on a time, and had virtually no body roll. maybe i just got lucky, mine actually had pretty stiff suspension
if i build a 2wd in the future, i'm going to link the rear end and do coilovers in the front, and run a supercharged or turbo'd 22R

Kyle is right. On my 4spd, 1st gear is rather useless. Winds out too quickly. 2nd has a GOOD pull to 50mph or so. Sometimes I just slip the clutch and let it pull through 2nd gear from a stop. Yeah I know, that's bad for the clutch.lol! 3rd gear takes me well past 85mph reving it to redline. 4th gear is practically like an overdrive gear now that I have the bigger LT tires on it with the stock 3.31's.
The main problem with the tranny is the spread of the gears. If it was a close-ratio, then the truck would be alot quicker.
I believe there's a "close-ratio" Celica 5spd tranny that'll work in these trucks, but I don't know the exact years/models which had this particular 5spd. Maybe the old Celica GTS's, I don't know.
Actually, my truck handles pretty good for what it is. If you crank up the front torsion bars, the front-end will have alot less lean through the corners. Of course, this is at the cost of a slightly higher ride-height and stiffer ride.
I agree, the turning radius is pretty bad. Too bad there isn't a "mod" or "fix" to improve the turning radius on these trucks. Geez! I mean afterall, the 2wd singlecab shortbed Hiluxes only have a 103" wheelbase to deal with. The turning radius COULD be better. lol!

mike, my 1st gear was actually pretty good until about 30mph
i know there's a few truck specific trannies and celica specific trannies, but both the celica and 2wd trucks used the W50 transmission at one time, at least in the early 80s. there's also a W55, contrary to what i know about 4wd transmissions i know very little about 2wd transmissions
oh, and my 2wd of choice to build is gonna be a '74-78 hilux(more likely an SR5 '77 or '78, available sunroof and other goodies) or a late 60s stout. the stout would make a cool little hot rod, though not as comfortable to drive...could be trick with a 3 link rear suspension and coils and a powerful motor though...
