1985 Celica 22r - 1987 4Runner - Engine Swap
What kind of mods would be involved in dropping a 1985 Celica (22r or re) motor into a 1987 4Runner? The 4runner has automatic transmission and came with 22re. Anything different within the fuel system setup?
Etc... Etc... Stuff I might need to keep in mind ... yada ... yada (or yota .. yota).

well you could always put a blockoff plate on the engine and add an electric fuel pump...
whats the point of the swap? to replace with efi? or carb? or blown engine? what are your outlooks for it? to have a carb? or just running? or have efi?

In Virginia the "new" engine must be newer than the "old" engine and all smog plumbing/control must be used fron the new engine..
Have seen some sweat rides for sale but the were not documented for DMV so they couldn't be tagged..
If yo don't have emmission testing/inspection now... you will someday..

Hey ... thinking about putting in a 225 V-6 Buick lol. The engine came as a spare for a boat I bought. Previous owner says it runs good ... out of an older Jeep (1967 I think).

maybe a spare anchor
don't think there's much going for the old dauntless these days. you can get engine mounts and a conversion bellhousing to bolt it up, but it's kind of outdated. if you wanted to put a buick engine in, i think a 3.8 would be a better idea

Was a thought. I'm funny that way .... it's not neccessarily that I want a Buick engine ... just an unusual 4Runner ... one that runs and I need the extra garage space. I could probably save up for one of those lucious rebuilt motors (LC or otherwise) but $2,000 seems kind of high and the prices I've been getting for remaned engines aren't much better. Everytime I think I've located a decent running used 22r / re it turns out to be a piece o' crap or the shipping prices are more than the engine. I'll keep looking around (local) and it will keep part of my garage occupied.
As far as the Celica engine, it would have worked just fine. I have a 22RE in the '83 Celica and it's the same thing. I have a friend with a truck with the same engine.
