16" rims on 2004 4Runner

I am lifting my 04 4Runner soon and am still working on choosing wheels and tires. Has anyone installed 16" wheels on an 04 4Runner. I have been told they might not clear the breaks. I am planning on wrapping them with a 285/75/16. Thanks.

It depends on which "edition" you have ... do you have sport, limited, or ???

ideallude, since you have the SE, you won't be able to fit 16" wheels. I think I read somewhere someone tried Wheelers Offroad 16" wheels on a SE but I'm not sure what the outcome was.

Anyway, I'd say you're pretty much stuck w/ 17" wheels sorry.

if you are stuck with a 17" wheel you can get a 33x12.5x17 for about the same height as a 285/75/16 except it will be a tad wider...

So how bab do you guys think a 295/70/17 will rub? It is a 33.19" dia. and 12.13 width.

bad but it all depends on the tire mfg. some tires will run smaller than the actual size (i.e. AT vs MT). so it's all case by case. But I would err on caution and say that it'll rub like a mother

example: 285/75/16 MTR at full lock and full compression rubbed like crazy for me

how much lift do you have? because with a revtek kit (3" front, 2.5" rear), even the 275/70/17 MTR (32.4") rubbed like mad.

Are you looking at the Nitto Terra Grappler? I think that's the only one I've seen that comes in a 295/70/17, and you're right - the mfg's website states that it measures 33.19" OD ... it would rub terribly.

Yes I was looking at the Nitto. But I think the only route I can go now is the BFG A/T KO to get something that is not going to rub to bad. I am installing the Cornfed spacer lift soon. Thanks again for your advice and keep it coming.

Just FYI I am putting on new wheels that will help me clear the A-arm. They have a 4.26" back spacing or a -06 offset. I think that will make it, I just hope it's not to much.

What size are you thinking of in the BFG? I've run both the 285/70/17 and the 315/70/17. Obviously the 315 won't fit with the Cornfed lift ... and the 285 is a bit bigger than the 275 MTR ... so it will rub, but pretty much any tire upgrade is going to cause rubbing ... if you don't mind cutting some inner fender plastic away, your options do expand to the 275 / 285 size ...
