As far as the hitch goes, I'll never take it off. I specifically looked for a 4Runner with a hitch and man am I glad I did. The hitch has paid off numerous times in the short 1½ years I've owned it. I use it fairly frequently. I've hauled tons (no kidding) of firewood, lumber supplies, and a ton (literally) of porcelain tile flooring that I pulled out of my kitchen to the transfer station (a.k.a. dump). Plus, I have a bike carrier for the hitch and an aluminium fold up cargo carrier (rectangular basket) I use all fall/winter to cart deer carcasses home after successful hunts.

I've thought about the custom bumper, but the Rockware I want is pretty spicey ($650+). With that kind of tag, I won't be seeing one anytime soon....

Anyone have any idea how easy/difficult it would be to modify an '01 OEM hitch to move it up 1½"???
I thought that with any body lift you need to do the steering shaft extension...

It depends on the vehicle and the way the steering shaft is set up:

Some can be extended in place, others need an extension.

Hey Roger,

Do you make a body lift for the 2006 Tundra's by any chance?

ok

so how difficult is it to install a 1 inch body lift in a 97 4Runner?

what needs to be done, just the mounts and the steering spacer? or does the fan shroud need to be cut, or dropped down?

thanks!

Pretty easy to install, RB has good directions on his website.

On a 1" you can get away with spacers and bolts and maybe having to remove the bottom of the fan shroud.

Perhaps the steering spacer if you wish and the bumper mounts brackets.

I've done several 3rd gens and it takes about 2 hours taking your time.

A 2 inch lift sounds good to me.

I just pray when i get it all installed i dont have steering or shift linkage issues.

If i put a 2" bl, put 1" blocks in the rear and cranked the TBs down 1" up front then that should be an extra 3 inches for tires no? (please correct me if i am wrong)

Im running 31x10.50s now but would like to get closer to 33s or maybe even 35s.

The only reason i am planning on doing this is i can not afford a SAS at the moment. There is no point in lifting IFS imho (lifting the suspension). Too much money just to start replacing cv shafts.

Steering is easy to deal with:

as are the shifters:

So if I get just a 1" BL on my '02, I would be able to fit 33's? That's all I really want.
