Well I hope TRD can get it together. My friend is really bummed out about this. He just picked it up yesterday. I did take it for a ride also. I want one! I think he was thinking about returning it that day and getting an 05 with 282hp. Hopefully TRD will come through and the solution will be posted here! The piston/rod solution does seem quite intrusive and expensive though

I'm with you on it.

Seems like there is a lot of FUD now.

I dont know if it is the internals, the ECU or what??

I hope it is the ECU, as it will be an easy fix, if it is the internals forget about it. It is going to be way too expensive to pull the engine, crack it open and replace the parts. Might as well trade it in on a 05 then.

Who has access to Toyota part numbers for vehicles??

i agree. and it sort of pisses me off that just because certain people don't like other people they have to bring that into every response they make. this doesn't even have anything to do with either of your loyalties so stop already with the immature comments and show some ˟˟˟˟˟˟ respect to each other. i'm certain SOMEONE has heard SOMETHING they would be willing to share here.

i do know that Anthony spoke with Toyota/TRD in regards to one of our clients who is getting a SC'd 05 ... and did so just a few days before Thanksgiving. FirstToy, if you spoke with someone else, that's fine, but it doesn't mean that what Anthony relayed was wrong either.

someone please tell us who you heard these things from and when. that way we can better understand the current situation and its progress.

the SC i was referring to was for one of our clients who is getting an '05 4Runner.

but anyway ... we're still selling the 05 Taco lift, just not advertising it here because apparently one of the pictures Anthony posted had been photoshopped by the friend of his who took them, because he "thought the tires disappeared against the pavement" and tried to highlight their outlines but then didn't tell us that he had messed with the picture. i'm waiting for Anthony to get back to CA with new pictures that he, personally, took of that lifted Taco ... then i'll post them.

Ouch! You're being sarcastic, right? I mean, wouldn't you lose at least $5K on a trade in, then pay out another $3-5K for the SC upgrade on top of any '05 mark-ups. Next thing you know, you've spent $10K+ just to put a SC on a V8, which, IMO, already has tons of power. Just my $0.02 worth, but for those of you who like to burn thru your $$, I don't mind living vicariously thru you.

Awesome... I have been saving for a new Runner or Tacoma for quite some time and I am getting close.

A lift will be an excellent thing to get. A S/C would be too.

Sorry to go off topic...

Nope I wasn't. If (and I say IF) they have to replace the pistons and rods on the V8 it will probably cost more that what you will loose on trading in on a 05, and what you will get back in 4-5 years if you sell an 03 vs an 05.

I dont see Toyota pulling the engine, replacing the rods and pistons and putting all together again, extending the warranty for under $5k or more. I can be wrong, but I doubt it.

Just phone Toyota and ask for the price of a piston set, gasket set, rod set, bearings for the V8 and see what they come up with. Then figure the rest for yourself.

Wish I had access to the parts and price database of toyota now

I agree. Although I'd be more concerned if they actually had something for sale. At that point, I'd want to know the exact reason for the holdup before plunking down $$$.

The price for pistons and rods and any other odds and ends, the parts guy will look for used parts 1st, so that the initial price will not kill you then he'll hit you with cost of labor

I don't see how the piston can be a problem, I never heard of a faulty piston, piston rods or rod bearings yes and I think it's weak of them to say their only gonna push the SC for the 05 but not the 03/04, Ican't wait to see whats gonna happen with the 4.0L V6 SC

how did some guy get an 05 V8 before Toyota is even allowed to sell them to the public and he already has the SC, this is messed up in so many ways

If you read anthony's previous post you will see that they are still waiting for the truck to arrive. V8s aren't on the market yet?? My friend has had her 05 v6 for almost a month. They said they could have a v8 mid december if we ordered it then also...

EDGE - read the post carefully, we are in touch with Toyota/TRD regarding a client who has ORDERED a 2005 v8 and wants to get it SC'd. in other words - he has not yet gotten the truck ... just ordered it and is checking on components for it while waiting for it to come in.

HE DOESN'T HAVE THE TRUCK OR THE SC YET ... Anthony contacted Toyota/TRD to check in to the SC situation, because the guy wants one once he receives his '05.

Some info I've received from Toyota and TRD. First off the 05 V8 will have 270hp and 330ft.lbs., not 282hp/225ft.lbs. like the Tundra. The 4Runner is tuned for a little more torque, by sacrificing a little HP.

The TRD 4.7 SC was stopped because of the ECU, not the engine. The engine is indeed almost bulletproof. The SC will only be available for the iForce V8 NOT the vvti. The SC is not compatible with the V6/V8 vvti motors. TRD is not presently or planning any SC for the vvti V6/V8 motors, as of today. I'm as bummed as anyone because I'm waiting for the 05 V8, which have NOT yet hit the market.

I would be very concerned if a stealer took an order for a 05 4Runner and promised a SC.

no one has promised a SC for an 05 Runner -- people, please read the post - we were contacting Toyota/TRD because our client wanted a SC AFTER HE RECEIVES HIS 4RUNNER. so, no one has promised anything, and we were not in touch with the dealer regarding this, but Toyota/TRD directly. the truck has been ordered, the SC would be added later.
