'03 Spoiler question....

When I bought my truck it did not have a spoiler, but they said they could ad one with no problem........that was in November. They keep telling me the hold up is that they hadn't produced a template for drilling the holes yet and that it will just be a little longer. Have any of you other guys run into this problem?

I didn't wait on another to come in with a spoiler because this one had been dressed up for the International Auto show and it had more than you would usually be able to get on a Sport.

Hey Momo, sorry to hear about your long wait.

To tell you the truth, I haven't seen a single 03 without the spoiler so maybe they are telling the truth.

Good luck.

Momo:

I've seen a few 4runner's w/ the rear spoiler...

It's not all that... From what I remember, it looks like it'll suck up alot of crap in the thin slot and just make things dirty...

From what my stealer told me, the design was poorly developed as it really didn't keep the crap away from the rear window... EHE, but for looks it doesn't look that bad...

I'm pretty sure some aftermarket one will be out that's exactly the same so hopefully you'll be able to get one of those (which will definitely be cheaper)

The '03 spoiler was a factory-install option only, not port install. Is it possible that is the holdup?

Actually, I didn't want a spolier, but it was the only way Gulf States orders 4Runners with a sunroof. And the sunroof was more important than the spoiler.

I don't have the rear spoiler.. I actually went after one w/o the spoiler... I don't like it.
My dealer also asked if I wanted them to add one.

The spoiler was a factory AND a port Install.

Where did you get your 4Runner and have the spoiler added later? I wonder if they used a template or if it was just by luck they got it on their straight?

To be honest with you, I wouldn't even consider getting one without the rear spoiler.

I had one on my '93 and and have it on my '03.

It looks naked back there without it, I guess because I've always had one.

It wasn't that they can't get the spoiler in, they could get it in any time they wanted and might even have it there now. It was that they didn't have the template to drill the holes. They said they wouldn't drill unless they had the template, so that is what I am waiting on.

Bad thing for them is, my wife said she is giving them until April 1st before she goes back up there. No, I am not a puss and no she isn't some big threat. I am 6'1", 250 lbs and she is only 5'.....maybe 105 lbs. I have faced her wrath before and it isn't pretty. If Sadam thought he has it bad..........god help them all....

Mine didn't have a spoiler or running boards when I first got it. They installed them about two weeks later when they arranged for someone Toyota "parts installer" person to meet me at the dealership. The only problem I had was that the running boards installed differently on the Sport Edition and the guy didn't realize that until he got ready to install so they had to re-schedule the appointment. They never mentioned any problems with the spoiler though....sounds like they were pulling your leg to me.

Unbelievable!!!!!!! Check this out....

I called Toyota Costomer Service to find out what the deal was and talked to the lady for a little while about my situation. While I was talking to her my cell phone rang and I just put it through to voice mail. She put me on hold to call the dealership to see what they were saying........while I was on hold with her I checked the voicemail on my cell and it was the dealership calling to say the template was in and that they could put my spoiler on next week. She was laughing when she got back to me and I started laughing, because she talked to the guy that had just left me the VM. I can't believe that would happen right at the exact time...... UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

Anyway, I will get my spoiler installed next week. Hopefully I will also be getting my digital camera next week so I can take some pics.

Momo.75,

Good luck. Like I said before, without the rear spoiler the rigs look naked.

I agree, it is a little bare on the back end. I am also hoping it will help redirect some of the dust off my back window.

lol!

Good thing about that is that my truck is always parked in my climate controlled garage, since I work out of my house. The only time it is out is when I go to meetings or just for drives. If it looks like rain, I always find more work to do at home.

Woody, I need to get a tag like yours for the front of my truck....

Since my Sport Edition did not come with one and I am leasing the truck. Will it make sense for me to install one. Thin I can remove it when I turn it back in? Do they need to drill to install it?

They do have to drill. They have to bolt it on as well as run the electrical for the brake light.
